  • SEC QB rankings: Arch Manning, NFL Draft prospects Garrett Nussmeier and LaNorris Sellers lead the way

SEC QB rankings: Arch Manning, NFL Draft prospects Garrett Nussmeier and LaNorris Sellers lead the way

When it comes to elite quarterback talent in college football, the SEC flexes several Heisman Trophy candidates and future franchise players at the position in 2025. The league highlighted several of the conference’s top expected passers this week at SEC Media Days as they represented a number of likely preseason top 25 teams.

The most SEC quarterbacks ever taken in the NFL Draft’s first round is two, set in 1948 and most recently tied in 2023 when Alabama’s Bryce Young and Florida’s Anthony Richardson went inside the top 10.

If Arch Manning meets galactic expectations at Texas and declares, the quarterbacks within the SEC could make for an all-time class, according to early 2026 mocks. Let’s not get ahead ourselves, however. There’s a 2025 season to play, so here is our ranking of every projected starting quarterback in the SEC as media days winds down.

  • With Myles Garrett and T.J. Watt deals in rearview, it’s time for Cowboys to extend Micah Parsons

With Myles Garrett and T.J. Watt deals in rearview, it’s time for Cowboys to extend Micah Parsons

Myles Garrett is no longer asking the Cleveland Browns for a trade.

Speculation about T.J. Watt’s future with the Pittsburgh Steelers, too, has concluded.

    So Micah Parsons, you’re up.

It’s time for the Dallas Cowboys to experience the edge rusher market.

Because four years after the Cowboys awarded the first-ever $40-million-per-year contract to an NFL player (hello, quarterback Dak Prescott), their time is coming to award that size of contract to a non-quarterback.

Garrett made Parsons’ 40-and-up payday a strong likelihood in March when signing a four-year extension worth $160 million, with $123.3 million guaranteed.

Watt all but guaranteed Parsons’ worth in that ballpark as the Steelers agreed to pay him $123 million over three new years of his deal (he has one left on his old contract), including $108 million guaranteed, per multiple reports.

That’s $40 million per year in new money for Garrett and $41 million for Watt.

Expect Parsons and his agent, David Mulugheta, to settle for nothing less.

The negotiations are not fully parallel, which could complicate an agreement.

Garrett and Watt have track records that date longer than Parsons, each entering his ninth season and third contract compared to Parsons looking for contract No. 2 entering Year 5.

Garrett and Watt have each won Defensive Player of the Year awards, Garrett in 2023 and Watt in 2021, in addition to four All-Pro nods. Even if there is a degree of subjectivity in these accolades, they regularly influence contract negotiations.

Parsons garnered Defensive Rookie of the Year honors in 2021 and two All-Pro recognitions in his four seasons to…

St. Augustine 4-star WR commits to Miami football

Jaguars sponsored flag football teams heading off to Canton, OH

Jacksonville Jaguars held sendoff party Sunday July 13, 2025 at Miller Electric Center in Jacksonville, Fla. for their flag football teams that they sponsor for the NFL Flag Championships next week in Canton, Ohio.

Somourian Wingo is setting his sights on Coral Gables.

The St. Augustine wide receiver announced his commitment to Miami at a July 17 ceremony inside the school’s media center, the latest major commitment for the 2026 class in Northeast Florida high school football.

Donning a black Miami cap and flashing the U sign, Wingo announced his commitment to the ACC school.

“They told me that they were going to do whatever it takes to land me,” Wingo said of the Miami staff under Mario Cristobal. “They continued to call me, to work, stay in contact. A lot of coaches go on vacation, but Miami stayed in contact with me and they just showed that I really mattered to them.”

Wingo, a rising senior, had announced a final three of Florida, Miami and South Carolina. He had more than 30 college offers listed in all.

The 6-2, 180-pound Wingo is rated as a four-star prospect and a top-25 receiver by the national recruiting services. He entered the summer at No. 27 on the USA TODAY Florida Network Top 100 list for the Class of 2026.

“I’m looking forward to getting to know everybody there, getting to develop and go win,” he said.

Electrifying in the open field, Wingo brings a wide range of athletic skills to the Hurricanes.

He caught 62 passes for 1,040 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2024 for the Yellow Jackets, who qualified for the Florida High School Athletic Association Class 4A semifinal before losing to Plantation American Heritage.

As a sophomore in 2023, Wingo recorded 29 catches for 531 yards and six touchdowns in a four-receiver attack while…

  • North Carolina, Bill Belichick score major recruiting win as DB Jakob Weatherspoon flips from Ohio State

North Carolina, Bill Belichick score major recruiting win as DB Jakob Weatherspoon flips from Ohio State

Bill Belichick’s first full high school recruiting class as North Carolina coach got a bump on Wednesday when four-star safety Jakob Weatherspoon flipped his commitment from Ohio State. Weatherspoon adds an eighth four-star commitment to the class for Belichick and the Tar Heels.

Weatherspoon, a native of Avon, Ohio, initially committed to Ohio State on Jan. 2 as the Buckeyes were on their run to winning a national championship. North Carolina offered Weatherspoon in February and he ended up making a visit to Chapel Hill in early June. A little more than a month later, he changed his pledge to UNC.

Weatherspoon is ranked as the No. 233 overall recruit in 2026, according to 247Sports. Additionally, he is ranked as the No. 19 safety and 10th-best prospect in Ohio for his class. He is the 33rd verbal pledge to UNC’s 2026 class and comes in as the fourth-highest ranked recruit behind quarterback Travis Burgess (No. 65), wide receiver Keeyun Chapman (No. 192) and defensive lineman Trashawn Ruffin (No. 195).

Weatherspoon’s flip also bumps North Carolina from No. 20 to No. 17 in the 247Sports Team Rankings.

  • NFL, Fanatics secure preliminary win in antitrust lawsuit over online merchandise sales

NFL, Fanatics secure preliminary win in antitrust lawsuit over online merchandise sales

The NFL’s business practices routinely dance on the line of the antitrust lawsuits. Even though they are 32 independent, competitive businesses, they row their boats in the same general direction.

It has led to legal challenges. In one of them, the NFL has secured a preliminary win.

Via Reuters, federal judge Andrew Carter Jr. dismissed without prejudice a class action challenging the NFL’s online merchandise distribution rules, which allegedly reduce consumer choices and increase prices. Fanatics is also a defendant in the case.

In a nutshell, Casey’s Distributing, Inc. argues that the NFL illegally restricts the ability of certain distributors to buy NFL merchandise and to resell it online. The judge found that the civil complaint doesn’t sufficiently allege an antitrust injury.

“While plaintiffs have been harmed by the actions of the defendants, the law protects competition, not competitors,” the judge wrote in his 12-page ruling.

It wasn’t a full dismissal; the case is not over. The plaintiff has until July 30, 2025 to amend the complaint to address the flaws in the presentation of the case.

Because the presiding judge was appointed by President Barack Obama, the basic political affiliation will make the judge more likely to allow the case to proceed. For now, however, the plaintiff has failed to meet the basic bar for pursuing the case against the NFL and Fanatics.

  • SEC Network Host believes Texas A&M football is being ‘overlooked’

SEC Network Host believes Texas A&M football is being ‘overlooked’

Before Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko and his three-player representatives, junior linebacker Taurean York, senior guard Ar’maj Reed-Adams, and senior cornerback Will Lee III, a host of SEC media members spoke to the TexAgs radio crew during the first two days of SEC media days this week to discuss the 2025 outlook for the Aggie football program.

On Tuesday, Georgia, Texas, and Auburn took the stage, while SEC Network host Laura Rutledge spoke to TexAgs Live host David Nuño, and was one of the few media members this week who felt that Texas A&M is being highly undervalued this offseason, while cross-town rival Texas has received all the national praise.

Nothing Rutledge said is new for those of you who have been paying attention, those of us who cover the program, knowing that starting quarterback Marcel Reed’s improvement this offseason, paired with the returning veterans and 14 transfer portal additions, have the Aggies on the right track to compete for a College Football Playoff berth.

“I don’t thing enough people are talking about A&M” Rutledge stated. “I don’t want to overdo this, because, I get superstitious about A&M, I have a couple best friends who are A&M fans, so, they get mad at me if I’m overhyping the team, but, I am an honorary A&M fan.”

Getting Rutlege’s now confirmed A&M fandom out of the way, the SEC host expressed her belief in the Aggies’ ability to get through what is widely seen as one of the toughest schedules in the country.

“I think they’re gonna be pretty good, Marcel Reed coming back, he’s got way more experience under his belt, and getting thrown into the fire you saw some flashes, you saw some freshman moments, right, it’s a moment of an experience, and now he’s got time under his belt.”

Rutledge is even more confident in Texas A&M’s defense improving with Mike Elko taking over as the play…

  • ‘Nowhere all-time:’ Randy Moss says Tyreek Hill hasn’t reached that plateau among NFL’s best receivers ever

‘Nowhere all-time:’ Randy Moss says Tyreek Hill hasn’t reached that plateau among NFL’s best receivers ever

Tyreek Hill apparently hasn’t done enough in his career to earn the ultimate respect from one of the game’s all-time great receivers.

While Hill is undoubtedly one of the best receivers of his era, Randy Moss, a first-ballot Hall of Famer who is widely considered to be one of the top-three wideouts to ever play, clearly feels that the Dolphins’ wideout has a ways to go before he can enter the all-time conversation.

“He’s nowhere all-time,” Moss recently told the South Florida Sun Sentinel. “Where is he at in today’s game? Tyreek Hill is probably top five. I put him top five.”

While harsh, Moss’ take on Hill and where he stands among the game’s all-time great receivers isn’t too far off, especially when you compare Hill’s career numbers to the most prolific wideouts of all-time.

Hill, 31, is currently 42nd all-time with 798 career receptions, just behind former Falcons great Roddy White and just ahead of tight end Zach Ertz. He is also 42nd all-time with 11,098 career receiving yards, just behind former Eagles standout DeSean Jackson and just ahead of former Bengals standout Chad Johnson. His 82 career touchdowns is currently tied with Anquan Boldin and Reggie Wayne for 30th all-time.

At this point, Hill’s career numbers simply don’t stack up with receivers like Moss or Jerry Rice, who is widely considered to be the greatest receiver of all-time. That will change, however, if Hill can put together at least three more Pro Bowl-caliber seasons before his career is over.

Hill’s career is currently on the same trajectory that Antonio Brown’s was when Brown was entering his age 31 season. While his single-season success was nearly unparalleled, Brown needed a few more seasons of high production to truly be considered an as all-time great. Unfortunately for Brown, that was the beginning of a fast decline that has put his future Hall of Fame hopes in jeopardy.

    Hill already has the…
