Super Bowl 2026: Patriots QB Drake Maye, Seahawks safety Nick Emmanwori off injury report

The two big injury questions for the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots before the Super Bowl have been answered.

Patriots quarterback Drake Maye has been dealing with a right shoulder injury. But he was a full participant in Friday’s practice, as he was on Wednesday and Thursday, and had no designation on New England’s injury report.

Safety Nick Emmanwori was not listed on Seattle’s Friday injury report and is expected to play on Sunday. Just to emphasize the point — and perhaps swipe at the uproar that Emmanwori’s injury caused — Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald had a memorable quip when sharing the safety’s status with reporters.

“No designation for Nick,” Macdonald told ESPN’s Kalyn Kahler. “Turns out he’s alive.”

Emmanwori, 21, became an impact player for Seattle’s secondary as a rookie, compiling 81 tackles, 11 passes defended, 9 tackles for loss, 4 quarterback hits, 2.5 sacks and 1 interception in 11 games during the regular season.

During the postseason, he’s made 8 tackles with 4 passes defended and 1 fumble recovery in two games.

Maye, 23, nearly won the NFL MVP award in his second professional season, finishing with 23 first-place votes (and 361 points) in balloting while Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford earned 24 first-place votes (with 366 points).

The Patriots QB completed 72% of his passes for 4,394 yards, 31 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. He also rushed for 450 yards and 4 scores on 103 carries. His completion percentage and average yards per pass (8.9) led the NFL.

In three postseason games, Maye has thrown for 533 yards while completing 56% of his passes with 4 TDs and 2 INTs.

Kirk Herbstreit reveals three-step plan to solve ‘really big problem’ in college football

In an ever-changing era in college football, Kirk Herbstreit sees the need for change. He has a three-step plan to fix what he called a “really big problem.”

Herbstreit, speaking with Front Office Sports, called for a commissioner for college football as well as collective bargaining with the players. Then, he said the Power Four conferences should break away and form their own league.

Herbstreit compared the current landscape to the NFL, where Roger Goodell is the commissioner for every team. In college, every conference has its own commissioner, which is where the ESPN analyst said things get murky.

“We’ve got a really big problem in college football,” Herbstreit told David Rumsey at Radio Row ahead of Super Bowl LX. “Imagine if the NFL didn’t have Roger Goodell, but the AFC South had a commissioner, the NFC South had a commissioner, the AFC East had a commissioner – all the way around. And you asked them all to get on the same page, meanwhile they all have their own goals, their own agenda. That’s what we have in college football.

“What Tony Petitti in the Big Ten are looking at, he’s worried about Champaign, Illinois; West Lafayette, [Indiana]; Columbus, Ohio; Ann Arbor, [Michigan]. And then, if you think about the SEC, Greg Sankey, he’s worried about Starkville, Miss. You think he’s worrying about Evanston, Ill.? No. He’s worried about his constituents – his presidents, his ADs, his coaches, his players. And he should be. But we don’t have anybody governing the sport from a national perspective. Until we do, we’re kind of spinning our wheels.”

    This story will be updated.

Super Bowl 2026: NFL playoff bracket, schedule and results

Super Bowl LX will feature the New England Patriots facing the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

The Patriots punched their ticket to Super Bowl LX with a 10-7 win over the Broncos in the AFC Championship. The two teams combined for the second-lowest point total in AFC title game history (Dolphins 14-0 over Jets in 1982).

The Patriots are headed to the Super Bowl for an NFL-record 12th time, and to get there, Drake Maye did something that Tom Brady never did: He won a playoff game in Denver. Brady went 0-3 in his career in the Mile High city with two of those losses coming in an AFC title game.

On Seattle’s end, the Seahawks earned their way to the Super Bowl by beating the Rams in a 31-27 thriller. Sam Darnold threw for 332 yards and three touchdowns in the win. The Seahawks are now headed to the Super Bowl for the fourth time in franchise history and the first time since the 2014 season when they faced the Patriots.

In that game, Russell Wilson was famously picked off by Malcolm Butler at the 1-yard line with under 30 seconds left to play in a game that the Patriots ended up winning 28-24.

Super Bowl LX will feature the AFC’s highest-scoring offense going up against a Seahawks defense that gave up the fewest points in the NFL this year. Not only that, but the matchup on the other side of the ball should also be solid with the NFL’s third-highest scoring…

LA Bowl shuts down after five seasons as college football bowl season shrinks

    Getty Images

The LA Bowl has been played for the last time as organizers announced Thursday that Washington’s win over Boise State in December was the final iteration of the five-year-old postseason event. That brings the total number of bowl games expected to finish out the upcoming 2026 season to 40, which could decrease further in the coming years for some of the small events with further College Football Playoff expansion potentially on its way in the future.

“After five great years, the LA Bowl at Sofi Stadium will no longer be moving forward. It has been an honor for our staff and volunteers to bring college football to one of the world’s greatest venues,” a statement from LA Bowl organizers said. “We want to thank the athletes and football programs who participated and, most importantly, the college football fans who joined us over these past five seasons.”

The LA Bowl had been played in Inglewood, California, since 2021 and featured teams from the Pac-12 and Mountain West. The game never had a repeat matchup and Boise State was the only team that played in the event twice.

  • Browns win big at NFL Honors with both of the top defensive awards

Browns win big at NFL Honors with both of the top defensive awards

The Cleveland Browns may have had an abysmal record in 2025 and fired their head coach, in part thanks to a putrid offensive display, but their defense was remained highly regarded throughout the year. So much so that at the 15th annual NFL Honors show on Thursday evening, two members of the Browns earned the top defensive awards on the night.

Rookie linebacker Carson Schwesinger was voted the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year, and defensive end Myles Garrett was voted the AP Defensive Player of the Year.

Schwesinger, a second round pick at No. 33 overall this past year, played in 16 games and registered 146 combined tackles, 2.5 sacks, 11 tackles for a loss, 9 quarterback hits, 2 interceptions, and 3 passes defended. He also added 10 tackles on special teams.

Garrett reclaims his throne, as he was also the AP Defensive Player of the Year in 2023. This season, Garrett registered 60 tackles, a record-breaking 23 sacks, 33 tackles for a loss, 39 quarterback hits, 1 pass defended and 3 forced fumbles.

    Arriving at the Red Carpet

Here are clips of when Schwesinger and Garrett arrived on the red carpet. Safety Grant Delpit was also there.

Jon Hamm hosted the actual show that aired on Peacock and NBC. During his monologue, he made reference to Garrett being in attendance, and compared it to Michael Strahan and one day having a broadcasting career and being responsible for giving Terry Bradshaw his pills. Don’t shoot the messenger. The bits weren’t even good on the show, and it’s not because I care about people poking fun at Cleveland.

Mid-way through the show, Hamm brought out a fake 60-year old guy who is on the Browns’ practice squad trying to be a quarterback. He did have one decent joke toward the end, when the ‘old guy’ said that Garrett’s single-season sack record was basically more impressive considering he didn’t face the Browns.

  • Former Patriots teammate rips Tom Brady for not picking Patriots in Super Bowl

Former Patriots teammate rips Tom Brady for not picking Patriots in Super Bowl

Tom Brady saying he won’t be rooting for the New England Patriots — or the Seattle Seahawks, for that matter — in Super Bowl LX has raised more than a few eyebrows this week, and one of his former Patriots teammates certainly took exception.

Speaking to WEEI 93.7, a Boston sports radio station, Vince Wilfork called Brady’s assertion “bullcrap.”

“That’s bullcrap, Tom,” Wilfork said. “That’s bullcrap, Tom. Come on now. All that political — this ain’t political. It ain’t political, what it is. Raiders ain’t in it. Say what it is. What you see? Man, look here, at the end of the day, if you a Patriot for life, you know what it is, don’t give me that political bullcrap. That’s just what it is. If you don’t think we gonna win, just pick Seattle then. Don’t straddle the fence. That’s what it is. Don’t straddle the fence. Straight up.”

A few days earlier, on the “Let’s Go!” podcast, Brady said he isn’t rooting for either team and attempted to distance himself from the current Patriots team.

“I don’t have a dog in the fight in this one,” Brady said. “May the best team win, and in terms of the Patriots, this is a new chapter in New England, and I’m glad everyone’s embraced the Mike Vrabel regime. All the amazing players that have worked so hard to get their club to this position. We did it for 20 years. There was a little bit of a hiatus in there, but the Patriots are back and it’s a very exciting time for everyone in New England.”

Considering Brady won six Super Bowls with New England, including three with Vrabel as his teammate, it was a bit of a surprise. But Brady’s role has changed quite a bit since. After finishing his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Brady agreed to a deal to become a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders in 2023, and he officially became part of the franchise in 2024.

The Raiders, it’s worth noting, are set to hire Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak as…

  • 5 recruits in 2027 class that Michigan Football should prioritize

5 recruits in 2027 class that Michigan Football should prioritize

Kyle Whittingham has already impressed this offseason as the Michigan Football head coach, bringing in what should be crucial transfers such as defensive end John Henry Daley, defensive back Smith Snowden and two-way player Salesi Moa.

But what will Whittingham and company’s first recruiting class look like? Here are five names in the 2027 class that they should prioritize moving forward.

    Four-star WR Dakota Guerrant

The Harper Woods, Michigan native is among the top high school players in the Mitten State. At 6-foot-1, 195 pounds, Guerrant has the build and athleticism to become a potential weapon on the perimeter for this Bryce Underwood-led offense.

Beyond the Wolverines’ need for adding elite receiving options, it is crucial that Whittingham — and presumably with significant help from Midwest recruiting guru Tony Alford — retain top in-state players. Whittingham has spent the last several decades building recruiting bases out west, and carrying some of that pedigree into his new home territory could make this staff invaluable on the recruiting circuit.

    Five-star edge Chris Whitehead

Back in October, On3’s ($) EJ Holland reported that Michigan had been “investing heavily” in the Virginia prospect. Of course, things have changed since then, but that interest should not dissipate under Whittingham.

Whitehead — out of Chesterfield, Virginia — already has elite length at 6-foot-5. Once he fills out that 230-pound frame, he could be a high-end option in a variety of defensive fronts. Whittingham’s Utah teams seemingly always had tough, stout play in the trenches, and furthering that in Ann Arbor will be important for him. A player like Whitehead would fit in great at Michigan.

    Four-star DL George Toia

Toia, from Trophy Club, Texas, is a top-100 prospect who listed the Wolverines…

  • What were the best 49ers games this season?

What were the best 49ers games this season?

Much of the talk around the San Francisco 49ers over the past few weeks has been around their impressive season, as the team managed to win 13 games despite being hit by the injury bug.

Several of those games were one-score contests early in the season before the 49ers went on a strong five-game win streak to clinch a playoff spot before their Week 18 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Then, San Francisco had the impressive playoff win on the road against the Philadelphia Eagles before their eventual exit against the Seahawks.

While the season didn’t end the way San Francisco wanted, there were definitely a number of games that were worth reminiscing on from an entertainment perspective. So, let’s rank the best games for the 49ers this season.

    5. Week 1 vs. Seattle (17-13 win)

Looking back, that Week 1 team was far different than how both the 49ers and Seahawks ended the year. And it came with its rollercoasters as Brock Purdy threw for two interceptions and Jake Moody had two missed field goals before being released.

But it was a great start to the season as a road win over what ended up being a Super Bowl team, and the 49ers did it with a comeback drive as Brock Purdy hit Jake Tonges on 3rd & Goal for an incredible four-yard catch in the end zone over Tariq Woolen. That gave the 49ers a 17-13 lead with just over 90 seconds left.

It looked like the Seahawks were going to win, as they came back all the way to the 49ers 9-yard line with 42 seconds left. But Nick Bosa got the game-winning strip sack on Sam Darnold. and recovered the fumble to seal the deal.

San Francisco lost George Kittle early in that game and found out Brock Purdy had turf toe, but managed to get the win.

    4. Week 11 vs. Arizona (41-22 win)

This one wasn’t a nail-biter by any means, but it was a dominant performance in Brock Purdy’s return from injury. The 49ers got out to a hot start with back-to-back touchdown drives to start the game, and ended up scoring five times in the…
