Texas A&M mascot Reveille X underwent successful surgery to remove her right eye after she was diagnosed with glaucoma, university president Mark Welsh said in a statement. Mascot Corporals noticed Reveille experiencing “discomfort and cloudiness” in the eye, which worsened over time. Veterinarians at the Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital recommended the procedure.

During surgery, the veterinary team found abnormal tissue and removed the eye out of caution. The tissue was sent to an ocular pathologist for evaluation, per standard protocol. Welsh said Reveille was discharged and is “resting comfortably.”

“Our priority is her health and well-being, and we are blessed to have access to the remarkably talented and caring Texas A&M veterinary team who will continue to monitor Miss Rev on her road to recovery,” Welsh said in a release. “She will take a brief hiatus from engagements as she fully recovers. According to her veterinary team, we can expect Miss Rev to be back to enjoying all her favorite activities — cruising on Rev Force One, attending classes, cheering on the Aggies and keeping our campus squirrels in line — this fall.”

Known as the First Lady of Aggieland, Reveille X assumed her role in April 2021. The sable-and-white American Rough Coat Collie came to Texas A&M from Juell Collies in Topeka, Kansas, which is the same breeder that previously donated Reveille VIII.

Texas A&M’s official mascot, Reveille, has been a cherished tradition since 1931 when students adopted the first mixed-breed dog. Known as the highest-ranking member of the Texas…

  • Panthers sign TE Tyler Mabry, put DT Bobby Brown III on non-football injury list

Panthers sign TE Tyler Mabry, put DT Bobby Brown III on non-football injury list

The Panthers made a couple of roster moves just before the start of training camp.

Former Seahawks tight end Tyler Mabry signed with Carolina, via Darin Gantt of Panthers.com.

Mabry will be on the practice field when the Panthers open training camp today. Mabry previously played for Panthers head coach Dave Canales and tight ends coach Pat McPherson when both were on the Seahawks’ staff, so it shouldn’t take him long to get up to speed. Mabry fills a need after Panthers tight end Tommy Tremble was placed on the physically unable to perform list because of a back injury.

The Panthers also placed defensive tackle Bobby Brown III on the active/non-football injury list. Brown signed a three-year, $21 million contract with the Panthers in March after spending the last four years with the Rams.

  • J.D. PicKell thinks the Sooners need John Mateer, DL to be great

J.D. PicKell thinks the Sooners need John Mateer, DL to be great

The Oklahoma Sooners need a bounce-back season in 2025. OU went 6-7 overall in head coach Brent Venables’ third season last year, which included a 2-6 league record in their first season in the Southeastern Conference. They’ve retooled the offensive side of the ball to go with what was a strong defense in 2024. Although they were picked to finish 10th in the SEC, there are a number of analysts, like Josh Pate, who believe they are a top-10 caliber team.

Now, the Sooners enter Venables’ fourth year and their second year in the SEC, needing to prove the naysayers wrong after the disappointment of 2024. They’ll face a challenging schedule that includes home games against Illinois State, Michigan, Auburn, Kent State, Ole Miss, Missouri, and LSU, as well as road games against Temple, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Alabama. Of course, Oklahoma’s schedule also includes the annual Red River Rivalry matchup against Texas and the neutral-site Cotton Bowl in Dallas.

OU has to deal with one of the toughest schedules in the country this year, but the Sooners have made plenty of moves this offseason to improve on the product they put on the field last season.

J.D. PicKell, who covers college football for On3 Sports, has been vocal in his opinion this offseason that Oklahoma will be much improved in 2025. However, he said this week on “The Hard Count with J.D. PicKell” that he believes OU needs a few things to go right this year to have the kind of success Sooner Nation is used to.

PicKell’s biggest need for the Sooners this year is for new starting quarterback John Mateer to have an excellent season. PicKell has reason to believe that will happen, given Mateer’s relationship with new offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Ben Arbuckle.

It’s night and day different when it comes to how stable they are and and what you can actually…

Here are the 15 NFL teams getting a new helmet or uniform in 2025: Steelers and Saints unveil gold jerseys

The month of July can sometimes be a slow one in the NFL, but that won’t be the case this year and that’s mostly because nearly half of the league will be unveiling a new alternate helmet or uniform (or both) over the next month.

There is nothing more exciting than the release of a new uniform and we’re going to see at least eight teams unveil a new alternate look this month and that number could go as high as 15. If you’re wondering why that number might change, we’ll be explaining the reason for that below.

The new uniform releases will be starting this week and then they’ll be rolling on all through July. Here are dates that each new uniform is expected along with what’s been revealed so far:

July 9: The Commanders have revealed their new alternate uniform and you can see the new look here.
July 9: The Saints have unveiled a new WHITE alternate helmet that you can see here. The Saints will also be releasing a new alternate uniform on July 22.

July 15: The Chargers will be wearing a gold jersey for the first time and you can see it here.
July 21: Steelers to unveil a 1933 throwback that includes a gold jersey and helmet (photos here).
July 22: Saints release a gold alternate jersey just 13 days after unveiling a white helmet.
July 22: The Bills are bringing back their red helmet for one game (Details here).
July 23: Packers to unveil new alternate uniform and helmet.
July (TBA): Browns to unveil new alternate helmet.
July (TBA): Seahawks to unveil new alternate uniform.

These aren’t the only eight teams that will be getting a new alternate uniform. As we mentioned at the top, there are actually 15 teams that will be getting at least one new uniform or helmet this year. The other new uniforms will be unveiled as part of the NFL’s “Rivalries” program. This program was announced DURING…

  • Deion Sanders updates health issue, says he’s ‘still going through something’ ahead of Colorado fall camp

Deion Sanders updates health issue, says he’s ‘still going through something’ ahead of Colorado fall camp

Deion Sanders stayed out of the public space and away from the Colorado football program for much of the offseason amid health concerns, and while he has not indicated what exactly the issue is, he provided an update in a video his son, Deion Sanders Jr., uploaded over the weekend. Sanders said in a brief update, seemingly in a voiceover on top of the video, that he is not yet fully recovered from the issue.

Sanders made the comment before he stepped into an ice bath with his daughter, Shelomi Sanders. He was visibly active in the video, shooting a basketball and resting after a tennis workout and 1.3-mile “run-walk” with his daughter.

“You know I’m still going through something,” Sanders said before he stepped into the ice bath. “I ain’t all the way recovered.”

During his time away from the public sphere this spring, Sanders reportedly missed a speaking engagement and said in May that he lost about 14 pounds. In the past, Sanders has battled blood clots, had emergency surgery in 2023 and had two toes amputated in 2021. It is unclear whether the latest issues are related to the previous ailments.

Sanders spent his recovery time at his home in Texas and previously said he would provide an update upon his return to campus at Colorado. When asked about his situation at Big 12 Media Days, he shot down a question from The Athletic’s David Ubben.

“Athletic, sometimes y’all be on that bulljunk, so I’m really not gonna tell you much,” Sanders said. “You know that. But I’m not gonna talk about my health. I’m here to talk about my team.”

Colorado athletic director Rick George later told Ubben that he expected Sanders on campus “in a week or two, probably.” That timeline would suggest Sanders could be in Boulder any day.

    When he does…

  • Derek Stingley: Texans should lead league in INTs by “at least about 10 or 15”

Derek Stingley: Texans should lead league in INTs by “at least about 10 or 15”

The Texans were second in the NFL with 19 interceptions last season, including five by cornerback Derek Stingley Jr.

Stingley expects the Texans to lead the league this season.

“Going based off of last year, plus the guys we got now, we should lead in interceptions probably by at least about 10 to 15,” Stingley told DJ Bien-Aime of ESPN. “I mean, we know we can get the ball. We just got to keep going to get the ball.”

The Texans added safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson in the offseason and have cornerback Kamari Lassiter, nickelback Jalen Pitre and safety Calen Pitre returning.

But can they reach the 30-interception mark, which is at least would it would take to lead the NFL by a wide margin? The 2011 Packers had 31 interceptions, which was the last time that’s been accomplished.

It’s not likely, but Stingley is dreaming big.

He will try to do more than he did last season when he earned All-Pro honors for the first time. It earned him a three-year, $90 million extension in the offseason.

“Going into Year 4, it’s really just staying healthy and stacking,” Stingley said. “There’s more to do that was already done.”

  • Tony Petitti recommended no more penalties for Michigan in NCAA letter

Tony Petitti recommended no more penalties for Michigan in NCAA letter

B10 commissioner Tony Petitti sent the NCAA a letter arguing Michigan deserved no further punishment in its advanced scouting case

It’s notable considering Michigan’s past contentiousness toward Petitti when he first suspended Jim Harbaugh in 2023 https://t.co/ICK0SeSAga

    — Dan Wetzel (@DanWetzel) July 21, 2025

According to a report from ESPN’s Dan Wetzel, Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti sent a letter to the NCAA Committee on Infractions recommending that Michigan receive no further penalties stemming from the Connor Stalions sign-stealing allegations.

Sources close to the situation said that the letter was read at the June 6 and 7 hearing that took place between Michigan and the Committee on Infractions. In his letter, Petitti argued that the three-game suspension served by Jim Harbaugh was enough and that no further penalties should be enforced. That three-game suspension — on the heels of an earlier in the year three-game suspension — resulted in Harbaugh missing the contests at Penn State, at Maryland, and the regular-season ending vs. Ohio State in Ann Arbor. Michigan won all three on the way to a Big Ten title and College Football Playoff national championship.

There has been no further reaction to what this letter might mean as the NCAA considers its next steps regarding Michigan. The wording in the leaked Notice of Allegations was very stern and condemning, but nobody really knows what to expect from what many consider a dinosaur and outdated organization these days. It has no responsibility to consider anything the Big Ten commissioner might say or do in how it hands down whatever verdict is coming.

It’s not to say that Petitti has had a change of heart since his stance in 2023 when he took action immediately to suspend Harbaugh, but one has to wonder if this is a bit of a self-preservation move for…

  • Chiefs WR Rashee Rice to be full participant in training camp despite upcoming jail stint

Chiefs WR Rashee Rice to be full participant in training camp despite upcoming jail stint

    Getty Images

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice will fully participate in the team’s training camp despite being recently sentenced to jail time.

On Sunday, the day before players are scheduled to report, Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Rice would be a full participant in camp. Reid’s decision comes three days after Rice was sentences to 30 days in jail and five years probation for his role in a multi-car crash in 2024 in Dallas, Texas.

“We’re going to progress as normal with him,” Reid said, according to the Associated Press. “He’ll go in and take all the reps that he’ll normally take. We always rotate that position. Depending on what happens here with the future, whoever needs to play will step in and know what they are doing and be in good shape to do it.”

Will Rashee Rice be suspended? Here’s how many games Chiefs WR could miss following hit-and-run sentencing

    Shanna McCarriston

Rice, 25, received his sentence as part of a plea agreement on Friday as a result of an incident where he and another speeding driver caused a chain-reaction crash that injured multiple people on a Dallas highway. According to prosecutors, Rice was driving 119 mph at the time of the crash and later fled the scene on foot. Rice pleaded guilty to two third-degree felony charges of collision involving serious bodily injury and racing on a highway…
