Ole Miss Rebels freshman defensive end Corey Adams, 18, died in a fatal shooting in Cordova, Tennessee. The Rebels program released a statement on his death on Sunday after sheriffs identified him as a victim. The Shelby County Sherriff’s Office identified Adams, who was pronounced dead at the scene, as the victim.

“We are devastated to learn that Corey Adams, a freshman on the team, passed away last night in Cordova, Tennessee,” Ole Miss football wrote in a statement on Sunday. “While our program is trying to cope with this tragic loss, our thoughts are with his loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.

“Out of respect for his family, we will not be commenting further at this time. We ask the Ole Miss community to keep Corey in our thoughts and respect the privacy of everyone involved.”

The shooting took place around 10:14 p.m. on Saturday outside of a Fern Glade Cove residence, according to police. Officers discovered one male gunshot victim after stopping a vehicle at an intersection. The male, later identified as Adams, received life-saving measures but was subsequently pronounced dead on the scene.

Multiple shell casings were discovered on the scene. Four other males arrived at Memphis area hospitals with gunshot wounds, all of whom were in non-critical condition.

Adams signed with Ole Miss as a 247Sports three-star recruit and the No. 27 overall recruit out of the state of Louisiana. He attended New Orleans Edna Karr High School, and enrolled early with Lane Kiffin and the Rebels in order to participate in spring practice.

  • Cowboys work out James Houston, Jesse Luketa, Kameron Cline

Cowboys work out James Houston, Jesse Luketa, Kameron Cline

One of the big questions for the Cowboys this week is whether Micah Parsons will be taking part in practices at training camp and he may have some new teammates to welcome along the defensive front if he is on the field.

Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports that the team is working out edge rushers James Houston and Jesse Luketa. Defensive lineman Kameron Cline is also working out for the club.

Houston had eight sacks for seven games for the Lions in 2022, but was limited to two games by a leg injury in 2023 and split last season between Detroit and Cleveland. He had one sack in 11 2024 appearances.

Luketa was a 2022 seventh-round pick by the Cardinals. He had 35 tackles, three sacks and a forced fumble in 31 games for Arizona.

Cline played in five games for the Colts between 2020 and 2022 and he made one appearance for the Bills last season.

  • Notre Dame football offers top-50 2027 Mississippi DE Derwin Fields

Notre Dame football offers top-50 2027 Mississippi DE Derwin Fields

There isn’t much room left in Notre Dame football’s 2026 recruiting class, with twenty-six commitments, they can start to look ahead to the 2027 cycle.

They already have two commits, just one being a position player, but the Irish have sent out plenty of offers to some of the best prospects in the country. One of them was offered on Saturday evening in Mississippi edge rusher Derwin Fields. The 6-foot, 5-inch and 220-pounder is ranked by the 247Sports Composite as the nation’s No. 45 overall prospect, just outside the 5-star range.

Notre Dame now joins teams like Alabama, Florida, LSU, Florida State and others in offering Fields, who should end up being able to play virtually anywhere he’d like. It does look like its going to be tough to pull him away from SEC-country, but the Irish have put their hat in the ring.

If Fields is able to make it up to South Bend during the season, it would be a great sign for Notre Dame to continue to be in the mix for his commitment. Time will tell if that happens, but for now, the Irish are clearly interested in him joining their 2027 class.

  • NFL Draft second-round pick tracker: Saints QB Tyler Shough joins growing list of players to sign their deals

NFL Draft second-round pick tracker: Saints QB Tyler Shough joins growing list of players to sign their deals

In less than a week, all 32 NFL teams will have reported for training camp. Even then, there could be quite a few rookie holdouts.

A total of 257 players were selected in the 2025 NFL Draft, but 31 players remained unsigned going into Thursday. The problem for most teams is they haven’t been able to get their second-round pick under contract. Of the 32 players selected in that round, only three had signed their rookie deal heading into Thursday morning. However, the floodgates opened over the past three days with 22 signing their rookie deals over that span.

As things stand, eight players remain unsigned, which means eight players could still hold out.

With that in mind, let’s take a round-by-round look at the unsigned players and whether each player might be able to get a deal done before their team starts training camp.

Florida OL Devon Manuel arrested on suspicion of DUI, felony gun possession

    Imagn Images

Florida offensive lineman Devon Manuel was arrested Friday in Gainesville for allegedly driving under the influence and second‑degree felony possession of a concealed weapon, according to documents obtained by Swamp247. The 22-year-old redshirt senior was booked into Alachua County Jail and later released on bond.

Manuel was stopped shortly after midnight for driving 60 mph in a 45 mph zone, per the report. Officers reported smelling marijuana in the vehicle and said Manuel admitted to using a THC vape cartridge prior to driving. He also reportedly told police he did not possess a medical marijuana card.

The report states that Manuel, the only occupant in the vehicle, informed officers there was a firearm located between the driver’s seat and the center console. A Glock 20 pistol loaded with 14 rounds — but without a round chambered — was later found during a search of the car, according to police.

  • Philadelphia Eagles unveil Super Bowl LIX rings with retractable wings

Philadelphia Eagles unveil Super Bowl LIX rings with retractable wings

After production issues with the jeweler delayed their Super Bowl LIX rings last month, the Philadelphia Eagles finally unveiled their new bling Friday night. They’re just as dazzling, and high flying, as the Eagles were during their 40-22 win over the Kansas City Chiefs in February.

The rings feature retractable wings, which are modeled off the same wings the Eagles wear on their midnight green helmets. They open and extend by the press of a button on the ring.

That innovative detail stands out the most, but the Eagles’ Super Bowl LIX rings are all-around glitzy, like the ones they earned for beating the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII during the 2017 season.

This year’s rings include a second Lombardi Trophy behind the Eagles’ logo, signifying the franchise’s second Super Bowl victory on the head of the ring.

One side of the ring includes the word “EAGLES” in the team’s font, placed right above the Super Bowl LIX logo and the score of the big game.

[Get more Eagles news: Philly team feed]

The other side of the ring has a spot for a player’s name as well as their number. Quarterback Jalen Hurts’ ring even includes his Super Bowl MVP designation. Hurts completed 17 of 22 passes for 221 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the blowout win that was more decisive than the 18-point margin of victory suggests. He also carried the ball 11 times for 72 yards and another score.

Inscribed on the inside of the rings are the words “TOUGH,” “DETAILED” and “TOGETHER,” as well as the scores of each game from the Eagles’ playoff run. Following a 14-3 regular season and NFC East title, Philadelphia made its way to the Super Bowl with a 22-10 win over the Green Bay Packers in the wild-card round, a 28-22 victory against the Los Angeles Rams in the divisional round and a 55-23 shellacking of a familiar foe in the Washington Commanders during the NFC championship.

The Super Bowl score is listed below those three preceding postseason scores, too.

  • Heather Dinich makes early pick for winner of Ohio State vs. Texas

Heather Dinich makes early pick for winner of Ohio State vs. Texas

It’s beginning to feel a lot closer to college football season and the ability to watch YOUR Ohio State Buckeyes. The college football preseason preview magazines are out, Big Ten media days are next week, and OSU will start its fall camp in just a couple of weeks.

And while there’s still more than a month to go before the kickoff of Week 1 in college football, it’s never too early to look ahead to some of the big matchups, especially a titanic one that will be taking place in the ‘Shoe between the Texas Longhorns and Ohio State. It’s bound to be a top-five, maybe top three or two matchup to get things going, so all eyes will be on that one when it (sadly) kicks off at Noon ET on Saturday, Aug. 30.

We’re going to begin seeing more of this, but ESPN’s Heather Dinich is already sticking her neck out and providing a prediction for one of the best nonconference games of the college football season. Spoiler alert: She likes Ohio State to turn the horns upside down and provided a reason for it during a segment on “Get Up.”

“Well, when in doubt, first of all, go with the home team, but Harry (Douglas) mentioned Jeremiah Smith,” Dinich said. “He might not just be the best wide receiver, he might be the best player in the country, and he should absolutely be in the Heisman conversation. But 1,315 yards, 15 touchdowns, last year? That’s almost a hundred yards and a touchdown per game. He’s going to be the best player on the field, and while I have questions about new coordinators at Ohio State, I think they get the job done at home.”

Dinich’s point about Smith is a good one, and I like her prediction for Ohio State to take care of business, but I think we still have to see how good the running backs perform, what kind of defense can be placed in the chamber to reload, and just how productive the new quarterback will be. All of…

  • Browns might end up using money from Johnny Manziel to help pay for their new $2.4 billion stadium

Browns might end up using money from Johnny Manziel to help pay for their new $2.4 billion stadium

Johnny Manziel didn’t exactly leave his mark on Cleveland during his two NFL seasons with the Browns, but he might end up leaving his mark in a different way, even if he doesn’t know that just yet. The Browns are expected to soon start the process of building a new $2.4 billion stadium and as it turns out, Johnny Football might be unknowingly contributing some money to the project.

To help pay for the stadium, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine recently approved a budget that will call for the state to contribute $600 million to the project. The catch here is that the money will actually come from Ohio’s pot of unclaimed funds. In the state of Ohio, an unclaimed fund could be anything from a dormant bank account, to an unreturned utility deposit to an uncashed check to an undelivered stock certificate.

Overall, the state has $4.8 billion available in the pot. Starting on Jan. 1, 2026, any money that has gone unclaimed for more than 10 years can be contributed to the fund that will help pay for the Browns’ stadium. So where does Manziel come in? Well, he’s got some unclaimed funds in Ohio.

According to the state of Ohio’s website, Manziel actually has two unclaimed funds that he is eligible to cash out. The one above is the big one: It’s from NFL Player’s Inc. and it’s worth more than $100. Manziel also has an unclaimed fund from ADT security that’s worth between $50 and $100. The Browns’ stadium is currently known as Huntington Bank Field, but by the time it opens, we might have to just all agree to call it “Johnny Football’s Field.”

Manziel was the 22nd overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, but he only lasted two seasons before he flamed out in Cleveland.

Since Manziel last played for the Browns in 2015, there’s a good chance that both of these claims will be 10 years old by Jan. 1, which means they’ll be eligible to be donated to the new stadium. Of course, Manziel could claim that money…
