Auburn among top schools recruiting 2026 TE Kaiden Prothro the hardest

    .

Auburn football remains a heavy-hitter for 2026 tight end Kaiden Prothro after making his top-10 list in November.

In a recent interview with On3’s Chad Simmons, Prothro says that Auburn is one of the seven schools recruiting him the best, joining programs such as Alabama, Georgia, and Florida State.

Auburn’s coaching staff and program trajectory intrigue Prothro the most.

“I like the coaches. In the future, they’re going to be great,” Prothro said. “I can see that they’re going to be a great team in the next couple of years with a top recruiting class and some great guys coming in. I really like that about Auburn.”

Overall, what does Prothro look for in a program? He tells Simmons that proximity to home and the history of how well each coaching staff develops tight ends are important. At the time of this post, he has not set a commitment date and is in no hurry to do so.

Prothro is coming off another impressive season at Bowdon High School in Bowdon, Georgia. The junior logged 56 catches for 1,203 yards and 22 touchdowns. He caught three passes for 92 yards and a score in Bowdon’s GHSA A-D2 state championship win over Brooks County on Dec. 16 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Bowdon’s third-straight title.

Prothro is a 6-6, 210 pound tight end from the 2026 recruiting class. According to On3, he is the No. 2 tight end in the nation, and is the No. 6 overall recruit from Georgia from the cycle.

CFP 1st round reactions: Notre Dame defense BURIES Indiana | College Football Power Hour

Notre Dame wins the first-ever game of the 12-team College Football Playoff in dominant fashion against Indiana. Caroline Fenton, Jason Fitz & Adam Breneman break down the game and look ahead to the Fighting Irish’s next playoff matchup with the Ohio State Buckeyes. After Indiana’s struggles in this game the narrative that perhaps they were unworthy of the playoffs is circulating, but is that fair to the Hoosiers?

In the spirit of Power Hour, the trio names a “Power House” and a “Power Outage” from Notre Dame’s victory against Indiana. While Notre Dame’s offense was electric, the power went out as an overly-confident Curt Cignetti failed to coach aggressively when it really counted.

Georgia has a first-round bye in this year’s College Football Playoff, but the team is reportedly preparing to be without its starting quarterback.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Chris Low and Mark Schlabach reported on Thursday evening that Bulldogs quarterback Carson Beck is exploring surgery options to repair an elbow injury on his throwing arm sustained during the SEC title game.

Beck having surgery would undoubtedly knock him out of playing in the postseason and most likely end his career at Georgia.

With the 2025 NFL Draft just around the corner, Beck will most likely declare as a potential first-round option.

Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton should take over for Beck for the College Football Playoff, where he will be tasked in leading the Bulldogs to a national title. No pressure, right?

  • 2024 College Football Playoff bracket: One fatal flaw for all 12 teams competing for a national championship

2024 College Football Playoff bracket: One fatal flaw for all 12 teams competing for a national championship

We spend so much time during the run-up to the release of the final College Football Playoff Rankings arguing about strength of schedule and quality wins. The imbalance across the modern mega-conferences and the small sample size of college football schedules leave much up for interpretation. A team can look great one week and then expose a myriad of red flags the next. Teams can skate by with close calls, allowing a win count to mask deeper issues as it climbs the rankings.

But now we’re here with the CFP set to kick off its first-ever 12-team bracket — and there is no place to hide. Every team in the field either contended for or won its conference championship, so winning the CFP National Championship will require multiple wins against great teams.

What it won’t require is multiple wins against perfect teams, because while every team in the field is great, they all have flaws.

Heavyweight bouts in college football are often decided in the margins. Whichever team can successfully identify and exploit the other’s weakness gains leverage in an otherwise toss-up scenario. The same can be said for teams that spend the playoff preparation time addressing their own issues with the extra practices. Any opportunity for an edge becomes an X-factor in these matchups.

Below we’ve identified one flaw for each CFP team, based on its regular season showing. If these issues are masked or addressed in the CFP, they could be the key to a championship run. But if opponents use these flaws to gain a leg up, they could prove fatal for championship hopes.

According to head coach Kalen DeBoer on Wednesday afternoon, Alabama Crimson Tide starting safety Malachi Moore will miss the ReliaQuest Bowl against the Michigan Wolverines due to an injury.

“Malachi Moore, he’s been going through an injury pretty much a lot of the season,” DeBoer said. “Just got to the point where he wasn’t going to be able to play, so just kind of putting that out there. He’s having surgery actually today. He wanted to do everything he could to get out there, was trying to wait it out to see if it could possibly be something he’s able to participate in. Probably the biggest thing I’ll say is he just grinded through the year with it. It’s not something recent, it’s been something that’s been ongoing. Maybe some kind of saw or felt something like that.”

A graduate student, the game vs. Michigan would have been Moore’s last of his lengthy Alabama career, meaning that the veteran safety’s time with the Crimson Tide has now officially come to an end.

Moore leaves Tuscaloosa as one of the more experienced Alabama safeties in recent program history, spending five seasons with the Crimson Tide dating back to his freshman year in 2020. Over those five years, Moore was a multi-year starter in Alabama’s secondary, and leaves Tuscaloosa with a combined stat line of 214 tackles, 16 TFL, 2.5 sacks, seven interceptions, 25 PD, two fumble recoveries, and three forced fumbles, as well as with one national championship in 2020.

This season, Moore had a career-year for the Crimson Tide where he started in 12 games, amassing a career-high 70 tackles with three TFL,…

  • Norfolk State to hire Michael Vick as coach: Ex-QB standout tabbed despite lack of experience, per reports

Norfolk State to hire Michael Vick as coach: Ex-QB standout tabbed despite lack of experience, per reports

    USATSI

Norfolk State is set to hire former NFL star Michael Vick as its next coach, according to multiple reports. Vick, 44, has no previous experience as a college or professional coach.

Vick was hired by the Atlanta Legends of the Alliance of American Football in 2019 as offensive coordinator but resigned before coaching a game due to other commitments. He ended up serving as an adviser for the organization for one season.

Vick led Virginia Tech to the 1999 BCS Championship Game, earning first-team All American and Big East Offensive Player of the Year honors along the way. He will replace Dawson Odums, who was fired at the end of the season.

Vick indicated that he would assemble a staff of experienced coaching veterans to help him build the program. He has spent the majority of his post-playing days as an analyst with Fox Sports, handling NFL coverage for various Fox-affiliated networks and providing commentary on pregame shows.

The former No. 1 NFL Draft pick’s hire is the latest in a trend of college programs hiring candidates with no collegiate coaching experience. North Carolina stunned the college football world last week by hiring Bill Belichick — regarded as arguably the best coach in NFL history — to replace Mack Brown. Belichick has never coached at the college level and spent his entire career in the NFL.

UAB hired Trent Dilfer in 2023 after his only coaching experience came at the high school level. Tennessee State named former Heisman Trophy winner Eddie George as its coach in 2021. Perhaps the most notable hire came in 2020, when Jackson State…
