  • Texas A&M 9-0 start signals end of late collapses, College Football Playoff bid?

Texas A&M 9-0 start signals end of late collapses, College Football Playoff bid?

COLUMBIA, Mo. — After his teammates waved goodbye to Missouri’s student section, Reuben Owens climbed onto the bench for a better look at the mass exodus pouring out of Faurot Field.

He spotted a chirping, mic’d-up Mizzou student and pointed toward the nearest exit.

“Go home!” Owens barked twice before hopping back down.

“Bro,” the student shot back, “I want to watch you play!”

Too late, buddy. Owens’ day was already done.

No. 3 Texas A&M (9-0, 6-0 SEC) had just slammed the door on No. 22 Mizzou (6-3, 2-3) with Owens’ second touchdown run late in the game. The 38-17 score may look routine on paper, but the moment was anything but for an A&M program that has cratered in November over the years, leading to easy fodder for rivals to chew and spit back in their face.

Saturday marked A&M’s first SEC road win in November since 2020, snapping a seven-game skid. It was also their third straight road victory in league play this season and their second consecutive blowout of a ranked opponent.

One win doesn’t define a season, but a 9-0 start — the program’s first since the storybook 1992 run — carries weight. It quiets the noise. It shifts the conversation. It forces people to stop invoking November ghosts.

“Is this our weekly ‘last year’ question?” Elko deadpanned Saturday. “I don’t know about the past. I know that’s four road games this team has gone on the road and won. We’re 4-0 this year on the road. We’ve only got one left, so we’ll finish this year with a winning record, if my math is right. I’m just proud of how these guys went out and did that.”

Texas A&M missed on the 1992 national championship by a whisker.

  • NFL asks teams to have moment of silence for Marshawn Kneeland

NFL asks teams to have moment of silence for Marshawn Kneeland

This week, Cowboys defensive end Marshawn Kneeland died in an apparent suicide at the age of 24.

This weekend, per multiple reports, the NFL has asked teams to hold a moment of silence for Marshawn before every game.

The Broncos had a moment of silence for Marshawn before Thursday night’s game against the Raiders. Before Sunday morning’s game in Berlin between the Falcons and Colts, a moment of silence was held. In both instances, the gesture was followed by a message regarding available resources for suicide prevention.

There is much more that can be done for NFL players when it comes to spotting mental-health issues and addressing them, not only when the situation becomes critical but when problems first arise. We’ll have something later today about the various efforts that were already underway before the recent tragedy.

It will require cooperation, collaboration, and determination. The desire is there. Marshawn Kneeland’s passing will hopefully be the catalyst for the kind of changes that will benefit all players, current and future.

  • Last-minute NFL Week 10 picks and predictions: Why we’re backing multiple road teams

Last-minute NFL Week 10 picks and predictions: Why we’re backing multiple road teams

Welcome to the second half of the 2025 regular season! While the Broncos and Raiders officially got us started on Thursday, Sunday’s slate is a full look at teams embarking on the stretch run. It’s poised to be a chaotic final nine weeks with teams still bunched up in the standings.

For instance, three teams in the NFC West are knotted with six wins and everyone in the NFC North either has four or five wins thus far. Moreover, the current playoff picture has the likes of the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens on the outside looking in, while teams like the Buffalo Bills and Detroit Lions are slotted in as wild card clubs. Does that hold throughout the second half or do these teams surge back into form? We’ll begin finding that out here in Week 10.

Before we get kickoff — which begins early on Sunday with the international game in Berlin, Germany — let’s make sure you’re situated with your bets. Below, you can find out five best bets for the Week 10 slate along with picks for every other contest.

Teams on bye in Week 10: Dallas, Cincinnati, Tennessee and Kansas City.

The Patriots are roaring, rolling into Week 10 on a six-game winning streak. While some suspect this is the spot where that run ends, I’m not one of them. I think the Buccaneers are too banged up offensively and don’t match up well against New England’s defense.

Running back Bucky Irving is once again out, which leaves Tampa Bay without its top back while facing the NFL’s No. 1 run defense. As for Baker Mayfield’s pass-catching group, it’s depleted. Mike Evans won’t play as he continues to deal with injury, nor will Chris Godwin. That leaves Emeka Egbuka as the top target. The rookie came out hot, but he has just 117 receiving yards over his last three games and now could be blanketed by…

  • Clemson has a 18-0 lead over Florida State

Clemson has a 18-0 lead over Florida State

Clemson’s defense, often under fire this season, delivered one of its better halves of football against Florida State, limiting the Seminoles to a single touchdown and heading into the break with an 18-7 advantage. While the Tigers benefited from a few lucky bounces, they made enough key plays to stay in command through the opening two quarters.

Garrett Riley’s offense came out sharper than usual, setting the tone early with a long, methodical scoring drive that covered 75 yards in 13 plays. Cade Klubnik capped it off with a short touchdown run, followed by a successful two-point conversion from Clay Swinney. For a group that hasn’t consistently opened games with rhythm, it was a strong start. But that early flow quickly disappeared, as the offense sputtered on three straight possessions. A strange trick play backfired badly, leading to a sack, and Klubnik later missed a clear opportunity to hit Antonio Williams on third down. Those missteps kept Florida State within reach when the Tigers could have built a bigger lead.

Clemson’s defense wasn’t perfect but found itself saved by some Seminole mistakes. A busted coverage left tight end Randy Pittman uncovered on fourth down, yet he dropped what should’ve been an easy catch. Clemson turned that gift into points just moments later when Klubnik executed a flea-flicker to Williams for a 34-yard touchdown. Another breakdown nearly cost them again when Squirrel White slipped behind the secondary, but Florida State’s quarterback overthrew him by a wide margin. Two near-touchdowns for the Seminoles turned into nothing.

On the ground, Adam Randall and Gideon Davidson gave Clemson just enough production to keep the defense honest, combining for nearly 60 yards against one of the ACC’s better run-stopping units. More importantly, the Tigers dominated possession,…

  • Nick Sirianni says he’s not thinking about Packers’ proposal to end tush push

Nick Sirianni says he’s not thinking about Packers’ proposal to end tush push

There are multiple subplots regarding Monday night’s game between the Eagles and Packers.

One, the message to YouTube TV customers from Google and Disney is, “Let them eat cheese.”

Two, the Packers are the team that proposed the elimination of the tush push during the 2025 offseason.

On Saturday, Eagles coach Nick Sirianni was asked whether it’s occurred to him this week that the Packers were the team to start the tush-push-ban ball rolling.

“I don’t get wrapped up too much into that,” Sirianni said, via a transcript distributed by the team. “No.”

We’ll know he’s fibbing if the Eagles — as they should — call a tush push on the first offensive play from scrimmage.

Does Sirianni like the fact that the play gets under the skin of other teams?

“No, I don’t care,” Sirianni said. “Again, I try not to get wrapped up into things that are out of my control, and so I don’t have an opinion either way. This is the rule, this is what we’ll play by with the rule, and we’ll go from there.

The Packers weren’t the true source of the effort to get rid of the play. As PFT reported at the time, Green Bay was recruited by the league office to make the proposal. It’s become a trend of sorts, given that Competition Committee proposals require an 8-0 vote before moving to the full membership. Team proposals have a straight shot at a full vote.

The effort came two votes short of the required 24. Which means 22 teams voted to end the technique. Whether it’s the Packers or some other team, it’s currently expected that one of the 32 franchises will once again proposed a prohibition of the play. With or without a nudge from the league.

Regardless, it adds an extra layer of intrigue for Monday night. For those who are wearing cheese and not only eating it.

Mac Jones will start for 49ers, with Brock Purdy questionable to dress

The 49ers named Mac Jones as the starter for the sixth consecutive game and the eighth time this season. Starter Brock Purdy is questionable to serve as the backup as he grows closer to returning from turf toe.

“It’ll be Mac again starting,” coach Kyle Shanahan said, via David Bonilla of 49erswebzone.com. “I haven’t decided whether to make [Purdy] active or not, but he’s further along this week than last week.”

Purdy was questionable last week before being one of the seven inactives for the game against the Giants.

He has not played since Week 4 when he aggravated his toe injury, which he originally hurt in Week 1.

The 49ers ruled out wide receiver Ricky Pearsall (knee).

They list linebacker Dee Winters (knee/knee), linebacker Tatum Bethune (thigh), offensive guard Ben Bartch (ankle), defensive tackle Alfred Collins (hip), defensive tackle Kalia Davis (ankle) and defensive lineman Keion White (groin) as questionable.
