  • D.J. Moore has two catches, 78 yards, TD after opening series

D.J. Moore has two catches, 78 yards, TD after opening series

Chase Claypool isn’t playing, but D.J. Moore is, and the Commanders probably should consider covering him.

Moore caught two passes for 78 yards and a touchdown on the Bears’ first drive.

The Bears won the toss and elected to receive and six plays later, they were in the end zone celebrating.

On the first play from scrimmage, Justin Fields nearly connected with Darnell Mooney on a long pass. Two plays later, on third-and-nine, Fields found Moore running free. Moore went 58 yards before safety Darrick Forrest pushed him out of bounds at the Washington 16.

After a Khalil Herbert run for no yards and a loss of 4 yards on a sack by Montez Sweat, Fields found Moore wide open in the end for a 20-yard score. It was Moore’s third touchdown catch of the season.

Fields went 2-of-3 for 78 yards and the touchdown on the opening drive.

  • Giants’ Evan Neal calls out ‘sheep’ fans for booing, later apologizes via social media

Giants’ Evan Neal calls out ‘sheep’ fans for booing, later apologizes via social media

The New York Giants are coming off of an embarrassing performance vs. the Seattle Seahawks in which they fell, 24-3. The offensive line was a major storyline, as Daniel Jones was sacked 10 times, bringing his season total up to 22, which are the fourth-most sacks taken through four games since 2000.

Naturally, MefLife Stadium was full of boos Monday night, and Giants right tackle Evan Neal was shown on the broadcast encouraging the negative noise. On Wednesday, he fired back at fans.

“Why would a lion concern himself with the opinion of a sheep?” Neal told NJ.com. “The person that’s commenting on my performance, what does he do? Flip hot dogs and hamburgers somewhere?”

The former No. 7 overall pick did a lot of winning during his time at Alabama, and he said some of those booing aren’t real fans.

“Because that just further shows that people are fair-weather,” Neal said, (H/T New York Post). “A lot of fans are bandwagoners. I mean, I get it: They want to see us perform well. And I respect all of that. But no one wants us to perform well more than we do.

“And how can you say you’re really a fan when we’re out there battling our asses off — and the game wasn’t going well — but the best you can do is boo your home team?

“So how much of a fan are you, really?”

Neal apologized via X late Wednesday night, but will it be enough to appease the same fans he called out?

Neal was the subject of a lowlight from Monday, when he appeared to block teammate Darren Waller. New York was without left tackle Andrew Thomas in Week 4, and center John Michael Schmitz exited the matchup early with an injury, both of which only added to the struggles on the offensive front.

The Giants are averaging an NFL-low 11.5 points per game this season and have been outscored, 77-9 (-68), in the first half. They are one of just two NFL teams with zero offensive plays run with a lead this season,…

  • Seahawks knew Daniel Jones likes to stare down his first target

Seahawks knew Daniel Jones likes to stare down his first target

Seahawks cornerback Devon Witherspoon had a sensational game on Monday night, with two sacks and an interception he returned 97 yards for a touchdown. Afterward, he said the Seahawks knew exactly what they had to do to beat Giants quarterback Daniel Jones.

Asked about the Giants’ 11 sacks on Monday night, Witherspoon revealed that the Seahawks expected Jones to show with his eyes who his first option was, and struggle if his first option wasn’t open.

“We were just trusting our game plan that coach laid out for us,” Witherspoon told NFL Media. “We knew he liked to stare down his first target. So he had his back turned, a lot of guys won their one-on-one matchups up front, shout out to our D-line. Without them, we couldn’t have made the plays we made.”

It was a dominant game for the Seahawks’ defense, and a disaster for Jones, who looks nothing like the franchise quarterback the Giants thought they were signing to a long-term contract this offseason.

New York Jets vs. Kansas City Chiefs: How to watch NFL online, TV channel, live stream info, start time

Current Records: Kansas City 2-1, New York 1-2

    How To Watch

    What to Know

The Kansas City Chiefs will head out on the road to face off against the New York Jets at 8:20 p.m. ET on Sunday at MetLife Stadium. The Chiefs are looking to tack on another W to their 5-game streak on the road.

Last Sunday, the Chiefs humbled the Bears with a 41-10 smackdown. With that victory, Kansas City brought their scoring average up to 26 points per game.

Patrick Mahomes did his thing and threw for 272 yards and three touchdowns while completing 72.7% of his passes. Mahomes wound up with a passer rating of 127.3.

Meanwhile, the Jets were within striking distance but couldn’t close the gap on Sunday as they fell 15-10 to the Patriots.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, the Jets had trouble moving the ball and finished the game with only 171 total yards. They were dismantled by their opponents in that department as the Patriots gained 358.

Kansas City’s victory bumped their season record to 2-1 while New York’s loss dropped theirs to 1-2.

Looking ahead, the Chiefs are the favorite in this one, as the experts expect to see them win by ten points. This contest will be their third straight as the favorites (a stretch that saw them go 2-1 against the spread).

Here’s a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Sunday’ matchup: The Chiefs haven’t faced much difficulty moving down the field this season, having averaged 390.3 total yards per game. It’s a different story for the Jets, though, as they’ve been averaging only 225 per game. Given the Chiefs’ sizeable advantage in that area, the Jets will need to limit their effectiveness. Come back here after the game…

  • Jared Goff praises Lions fans for taking over Lambeau Field

Jared Goff praises Lions fans for taking over Lambeau Field

Thousands of Lions fans packed Lambeau Field on Thursday night to see their team beat the Packers, and afterward quarterback Jared Goff said it was a real road-field advantage.

Goff praised Lions fans for making noise and sticking around late in the win, cheering them as they walked off the field as Packers fans hit the exits.

“They’re the best. They’re the best,” Goff said of Lions fans. “They showed out tonight, like they did the Sunday night game last year. That’s a feeling unlike any other, when you’re walking off the field and they’re cheering like that, on the road. Especially when you think about from where we’ve come. It’s a pretty good feeling, and we’ve got to keep winning for them.”

The 3-1 Lions, who also had a loud contingent of fans on the road in their win over the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium in Week One, have given their fans more reason for optimism than fans of the franchise have had in decades. They’re the clear favorites to win the NFC North and give Detroit its first home playoff game since 1994. That would be a great gift to a fan base that has stuck by its team through some awfully tough times.

  • NFL Week 4 picks: Patriots stun Cowboys with upset in Dallas, Bills beat high-flying Dolphins in thriller

NFL Week 4 picks: Patriots stun Cowboys with upset in Dallas, Bills beat high-flying Dolphins in thriller

I’m not saying the NFL should cancel Week 4, but the NFL might want to think about canceling Week 4 because there’s no way it’s going to top the craziness of Week 3. Actually, you don’t even have to cancel it. Roger Goodell just needs to postpone Week 4 for about a month so that we can all try and process everything that happened in Week 3.

I mean, I thought for sure that an NFL team scoring 70 points would be the biggest story of the day, but then Taylor Swift showed up at the Chiefs game, and I’d like to tell you what happened next, but I have no idea, because the internet broke.

I have no idea what’s going on with Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift, but I can tell you right now, this is going to end in one of two ways: Either they’re going to get married or Kelce is going to end up as the main subject in Taylor’s next album. There’s no in-between.

I would love to keep talking about Taylor, but as it turns out, Goodell did not postpone Week 4, so we need to get to the picks.

Actually, before we get to the picks, here’s a quick reminder that you can check out the weekly picks from every CBSSports.com NFL expert by clicking here, but you were probably already well aware of that since I mention it every week.

One thing that I don’t mention every week is that I also write an NFL newsletter for CBS Sports and if you want so subscribe to it, you just need to go here and enter your email. If you sign up, you’ll be getting an email to your inbox every week day that’s full of football news and maybe cat pictures.

Alright, I’m going to stop begging you to sign up for things so that we can get to the picks.

    NFL Week 4 picks

Detroit (2-1) at Green Bay (2-1)

Thursday, 8:15 p.m. ET (Amazon Prime)

For the first time in NFL history, a division title is on the line in Week 4. OK, well, technically, the division title won’t be up for grabs on Thursday, but I feel like I can confidently…

  • Tagovailoa and the Dolphins offense are an NFL cheat code

Tagovailoa and the Dolphins offense are an NFL cheat code

Photograph: Nathan Ray Seebeck/USA Today Sports

The Miami Dolphins broke out the cheat code on Sunday. Before half-time.

Some NBA teams struggle to score 70 points in a game. But here we are in the NFL, and Mike McDaniel’s state-of-the-art offensive machine were putting up 35 before the third quarter arrived, then kept cranking out video game numbers in a surreal 70-20 scorching of the Denver Broncos.

Sean Payton’s new team didn’t stand a chance. Poor Russell Wilson – who wasn’t terrible on Sunday and put up 300 yards for the second week in succession – couldn’t compete when matched up against Tua Tagovailoa, who doesn’t have to worry about how to fall when the Dolphins play like this.

Miami’s entire offense was brilliant, totaling 726 offensive yards while collecting 30 first downs, going a perfect 6-for-6 in the red zone and reminding Payton that coaching in the NFL isn’t as easy as it appears from the safety of a TV studio.

It’s easy to forget how impressive Tagovailoa was before concussions, hard hits and stiffened hands began to define his career. Here was a reminder. Tagovailoa was the definition of quarterback efficiency in a victory that defined lopsided: 23-of-26 passing for 309 yards, four touchdowns and a 155.8 rating. He was also calm, sleek, cool and everything Miami were hoping for when they stood behind a fourth-year QB that some teams already would have moved on from.

Tyreek Hill was again almost unguardable with nine catches for 157 yards and a touchdown. Then there was running back Raheem Mostert, who totalled 142 offensive yards and four TDs. And rookie running back De’Von Achane, who galloped for 203 yards on just 18 carries – that’s a ridiculous 11.3 average if you’re counting at home – and also added two scores. It wasn’t just the starters enjoying themselves: backup QB Mike White – who the Jets may now wish they had hung on to – was also perfect (2-of-2 for 67 yards and a TD) on a day when everything went…

  • NFL Week 3 weather: Tropical Cyclone could affect Bills at Commanders, Ravens at Colts and Patriots at Jets

NFL Week 3 weather: Tropical Cyclone could affect Bills at Commanders, Ravens at Colts and Patriots at Jets

    USATSI

Hurricane season runs through late November, so it’s expected that a few NFL games will be affected by bad weather. While the United States is currently not in the path of any major hurricane, a cyclone-turned-tropical storm could affect a few NFL games in Week 3.

An area of low pressure the National Hurricane Center is calling “Potential Tropical Cyclone Sixteen” is creeping up the Eastern Seaboard, and the NHC is actually forecasting this to become a tropical or subtropical storm on Friday, per Weather.com.

As this system moves north, it’s expected to reach Maryland by Saturday. That means wind and rain could potentially affect three games: The Buffalo Bills at the Washington Commanders in Landover, MD, Indianapolis Colts at Baltimore Ravens in Baltimore and New England Patriots at New York Jets in East Rutherford, NJ.

Weather.com’s forecast says both Baltimore and New York could receive 2-3 inches of rain. Tropical storm warnings have been issued from South Carolina into eastern Maryland. Weather.com reports the storm’s largest impact will come Friday and Saturday, with what they describe as lingering impacts possible on Sunday.
