Fantasy Football Rankings: Rest-of-season RB tiers

We’re moving through October and it’s time to give the running backs their day in the sun, a Shuffle Up of fantasy football’s most critical position. What’s happened to this point is merely an audition. The ranks and tiers you find below are what I’d use if I were entering a fresh fantasy football draft starting now. Use these tiers to self-scout your roster or as a sounding board when you’re considering trades and pickups.

The salaries are unscientific and meant to be a tool to show where the talent clusters. Players with the same salary are considered even. Remember the golden rule: no player gains (or loses) extra value simply because you roster him.

Players who are currently hurt get their own provisional rank at the bottom. They are not for debate. Everyone has their own ideas about injuries and comebacks.

    $44 Saquon Barkley

    $43 Derrick Henry

    $42 Kyren Williams

    $40 Breece Hall

    $38 Bijan Robinson

    $35 Kenneth Walker III

    $32 Jahmyr Gibbs

It’s a shame Barkley’s next New York revenge game is tucked into Week 18 (irrelevant for fantasy), but he’s capable of going off against anyone; his weekly finishes are RB1, RB1, RB20, RB33 and RB3 last week. He’s averaging a robust 6.1 yards per carry and his yards per target has also increased slightly. It’s the best Barkley has played in six seasons.

Henry has a tricky playoff schedule, but he also has a steady career trend of getting better as seasons move along. With Baltimore’s line starting to play better — and Lamar Jackson a boost for rushing lanes — I’m not going to sweat Henry’s opponents. He’s going to get home more often than not.

The offensive line play hasn’t been good with the Rams, but Williams is a decisive back with sneaky power, allowing him to become one of the best goal-line converters in the league. He’s seen a league-high 10 rushes from inside the five-yard line, and he’s punched seven of them into the end zone. The offensive buoyancy should rise, too, with Cooper Kupp coming back this week and…

  • 2024 Week 8 NFL score predictions, odds, picks: Expert gives exact scores for all 16 games

2024 Week 8 NFL score predictions, odds, picks: Expert gives exact scores for all 16 games

Week 7 of the 2024 NFL season produced crushing injuries for multiple NFC contenders, especially at the wide receiver position. San Francisco’s Brandon Aiyuk suffered a major knee injury and will reportedly miss the remainder of the season, while teammate Deebo Samuel was hospitalized with pneumonia. On Monday, Tampa Bay’s Mike Evans left the team’s game against Baltimore with a hamstring injury and teammate Chris Godwin suffered a leg injury in the final minute. Like Aiyuk, Godwin could miss the rest of the season. Now, the 49ers and Buccaneers are seemingly thin at the position and lacking their top playmakers. Can both teams navigate tricky Week 8 home games against NFC foes? The Buccaneers (+2.5, 46) host the Falcons, while the 49ers (-4.5, 46.5) host the Cowboys. Before you make any Week 8 NFL picks, be sure to see the exact NFL score predictions from SportsLine expert Eric Cohen.

Cohen, a SportsLine NFL expert and host of the Friday “Early Edge NFL Props Show” on SportsLine’s YouTube page, evaluated the entire Week 8 NFL slate and delivers NFL score predictions and NFL analysis for each matchup. After a 9-6 betting record in Week 7, he is now 41-18 (69%) since Week 4. Anyone who followed Cohen’s NFL predictions has been profitable at their favorite sports betting sites and betting apps. You can only see Cohen’s Week 8 NFL exact score predictions at SportsLine.

    Top Week 8 NFL picks

After diving into all 16 games from the NFL’s eighth week, Cohen is high on the Eagles (+2.5, 47.5) to upset the Bengals on the road, 26-24. Philadelphia running back Saquon Barkley has been virtually unstoppable this season, having rushed for 658 yards and five touchdowns in six games. On Sunday against his former team, the Giants, Barkley rushed for 176 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. The Bengals allow 136.1 rushing yards per game, 11th worst in the league to date.

  • Todd Bowles says Bucs WR Chris Godwin dislocated his ankle

Todd Bowles says Bucs WR Chris Godwin dislocated his ankle

Bucs wide receiver Chris Godwin will be out indefinitely, probably for the season, after dislocating his ankle in Monday’s loss to the Ravens.

Coach Todd Bowles revealed the bad news, saying “it doesn’t look good,” while answering questions about why Godwin was even in the game with 41 seconds left.

“You could say [he shouldn’t have been in the game], because he got hurt. We don’t second guess,” Bowles said. “We got our guys, and we’re playing everybody we’ve got. It’s unfortunate he got hurt and we feel bad about that. But he’s a football player and he wanted to be in the game just like Baker [Mayfield] and everyone else wanted to be in the game.”

The Bucs trailed by 10 points with less than a minute remaining when Godwin caught a pass from Mayfield before being tackled by Ravens linebacker Roquan Smith. It was obvious the star receiver could not get up and was in significant pain.

ESPN declined to show a replay of the gruesome injury.

“Chris is a hell of a player, and he’s a hell of a human being, even more so than that,” Bowles said. “But there’s not much you can say. We feel bad for him. Unfortunately, they’re not going to cancel the games. We’ve got to step up and move on, but our hearts are heavy.”

The Bucs lost their other star receiver, Mike Evans, in the first half when he dropped a touchdown pass while aggravating his hamstring on a tackle by Ravens defensive back Brandon Stephens.

Godwin, who becomes a free agent in the offseason, entered the game with 43 catches for 511 yards and five touchdowns before catching seven passes for 65 yards against the Ravens.

  • Shanahan fears Aiyuk sustained torn ACL in 49ers’ loss to Chiefs

Shanahan fears Aiyuk sustained torn ACL in 49ers’ loss to Chiefs

Shanahan fears Aiyuk sustained torn ACL in 49ers’ loss to Chiefs originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area

Brandon Aiyuk is feared to have sustained a torn right ACL, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters after San Francisco’s 28-18 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday at Levi’s Stadium.

“We’re worried it’s an ACL,” Shanahan said. “Not confirmed yet. But we’ll find out [Monday].”

Aiyuk suffered the injury with 0:37 remaining in the second quarter and was able to walk to the sideline, but was carted to the locker room and ruled out early in the third quarter.

Shanahan was pressed on whether Aiyuk tore his ACL.

“That’s what it looks like, but we don’t know for sure,” Shanahan said. “Just doing the tests and everything with our hands and the trainers and all that. So that’s what we fear. That’s what it looks like. But we’ve been wrong before, so praying that we are.”

Aiyuk finished the game with two receptions for 23 yards on six targets.

If Aiyuk’s 2024 NFL season indeed is over, it’s a devastating turn of events after the All-Pro wide receiver signed a four-year, $120 million contract extension just before the Week 1.

Coming off his second consecutive 1,000-yard receiving season, even bigger things were expected from Aiyuk.

Instead, Aiyuk likely finishes the season with 374 receiving yards on 25 receptions.

Now, the 49ers will lean on veterans Deebo Samuel and George Kittle, as well as rookies Ricky Pearsall and Jacob Cowing.

NFL DFS: Optimizer says Week 7, 2024 daily fantasy football lineup picks, projections for FanDuel, DraftKings

Bills quarterback Josh Allen finished as QB1 in Fantasy football in three of the last four seasons and now that he has a top wideout in Amari Cooper to go along with his rushing upside, should you spend up to include Allen as your quarterback in NFL DFS picks for Sunday? Cooper, who is expected to make his Bills debut, is the WR36 in Fantasy football this season, but will now catch passes from Allen instead of Deshaun Watson. The 30-year-old receiver is averaging 41.7 yards per game, the lowest of his 10-year career, but will playing with Allen make him an immediate impact option for daily Fantasy football players forming Week 7 NFL DFS lineups and NFL DFS stacks? Top NFL Week 7 DFS picks for Sunday

One of the optimizer’s top DFS value picks for Sunday is Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins ($6,300 on DraftKings, $7,200 on FanDuel). The 13-year NFL quarterback threw for more than 4,000 yards in each of his last three full seasons before tearing his Achilles midway through last year with the Vikings. Cousins could…

  • Jared Goff is one great game away from making history

Jared Goff is one great game away from making history

When the Lions gave quarterback Jared Goff a new contract earlier this year, it came with an expectation that he’ll step up his game.

    He has.

Goff has two straight games with a passer rating for 150 or higher. With another on Sunday in Minnesota, Goff will become the first quarterback in NFL history to do it for three games in a row.

Against the Cowboys on Sunday, Goff’s passer rating was 153.8. In Detroit’s prior game, a Week 4 Monday nighter against the Seahawks, Goff’s perfect 18-for-18 night didn’t lead to a perfect passer rating, but it was close to a perfect passer rating, at 155.8. (The perfect passer rating is 158.3; Goff’s touchdown percentage was a bit below statistical perfection.)

Three quarterbacks have strung together a trio of passer ratings in excess of 140: Roger Staubach in 1971; Kurt Warner in 1999; and Aaron Rodgers in 2011.

It won’t be easy against the Brian Flores-led defense. That said, Goff had a perfect passer rating against the Vikings on a Thursday night in 2018. At the time, however, the Minnesota defense was led by Mike Zimmer — whose Dallas defense Goff once again shredded like dried-out cheddar in the Lions’ most recent game.

  • NFL Week 7 injuries: Latest updates on Cooper Kupp, Rhamondre Stevenson, Diontae Johnson and others

NFL Week 7 injuries: Latest updates on Cooper Kupp, Rhamondre Stevenson, Diontae Johnson and others

Week 7 of the 2024 NFL season is here. Per usual, we’re keeping tabs on several key injuries throughout the league. Once again, a number of key names are dealing with injury statuses ahead of their games. A few superstars will have the green light for Sunday, including new Jets wide receiver Davante Adams (hamstring) and Browns running back Nick Chubb (knee).

The Vikings will have to wait for Aaron Jones, while the Colts have uncertain status on several wide receivers. Below, you’ll see each team’s injury designations this week.

    All odds via DraftKings sportsbook.

Good news for the Patriots. Stevenson practiced in full on Friday, so there’s a good chance he plays on Sunday. Jones was limited in practice all week but is still up in the air to play.

For the Jaguars, Etienne was limited in practice all week. If he can’t go, Tank Bigsby will get the start Sunday.

The Seahawks won’t have Woolen or Brown, which means they’re down two of their top four cornerbacks. Nehemiah Pritchett is set to get the start at cornerback next to Devon Witherspoon.

Simmons was limited Thursday and Friday for the Falcons, so he’ll likely be a game-time decision for Sunday. That’s the only major injury for Atlanta.

The Titans may not have Levis on Sunday, as he was limited in Friday’s practice with his injury to his throwing shoulder. If Levis is out, Mason Rudolph will get the start at quarterback. Sneed did not practice all week, but may be good enough to give it a go this week.

The Bills will have running back James Cook (toe) for Sunday, as he was not given an injury designation, but they could be without Davis. New Bills wide receiver Amari Cooper is expected to play.

The Bengals are relatively healthy heading into Sunday, as Ivey was a full participant in Friday’s practice.

The banged-up Browns got good injury news. Chubb is expected to make his season debut Sunday, while Hicks…
