Where to watch Ohio State vs. Ohio: TV channel, kickoff time, odds, prediction for Week 3 in-state matchup

No. 1 Ohio State wraps up nonconference play Saturday with an in-state matchup against Ohio. Despite their close proximity, it’s just the seventh meeting in the all-time series and only the third since 1902. Unless the Bobcats pull off the season’s biggest upset, the Buckeyes have a chance to move to 7-0 in the series and stay unbeaten heading into the first of their two bye weeks.

Ohio represents a middle ground on the Buckeyes’ early schedule. They opened with a season-defining win over then-No. 1 Texas before rolling FCS foe Grambling State 70-0. Coach Ryan Day cautioned that Ohio will provide a different kind of challenge.

Ohio State vs. Ohio: Need to know

History on Ohio State’s side: A loss to Ohio would be historic. The Buckeyes are 38-1 all-time against current members of the MAC, riding a 38-game winning streak in those matchups since 1894. They’re also unbeaten in 53 straight games against other in-state programs and have never lost to an Ohio school inside Ohio Stadium.

Ohio a threat to Power Four teams: The Bobcats already flashed against power competition this fall. They took Rutgers to the wire in a 34-31 loss after entering the fourth quarter tied, then broke through last week with a…

  • What Louisiana coach said about Missouri football before Week 3 game

What Louisiana coach said about Missouri football before Week 3 game

Louisiana coach Michael Desormeaux sees his team’s road trip to face Missouri football as an examination — a test of his own team’s mettle.

“We’ll find out exactly where we are this week,” Desormeaux told reporters in Lafayette on Monday. “On defense, we’ve been really physical. We’ve stopped the run. We’ve done those things. We’ll find out this week if we’re really that type of team or not.”

No. 25/RV Missouri will host Louisiana this week for a noon kickoff Saturday in Columbia, with kickoff moved up three hours to avoid forecasted extreme heat in Columbia. The matchup has sold out, per Mizzou athletics.

MU (2-0) heads into the game on the back of a Border War win over Kansas.

Louisiana (1-1) fell to Rice in a home upset in Week 1 and lost starting quarterback Walker Howard to injury for the season. The Ragin’ Cajuns beat McNeese State last Saturday.

Ahead of the game during his pregame availability in Lafayette, here’s what Desormeaux said about Mizzou.

On the Mizzou offense through two games

Asked what the Mizzou offense does well, Desormeaux made a potentially long list nice and succinct.

“It’s everything right now,” the UL coach responded.

Missouri currently ranks No. 5 in the FBS for total offense with 577.5 yards per game.

Added Desormeaux: “They are huge up front. It’s an SEC O-line. They look like it. They’ve got really good running backs. … You know, we’re familiar with Coach Drinkwitz a little bit from a few years back, and it’s a similar formula to win. They’re going to run the football. They’re going to throw play-actions and naked (bootleg passes) and stuff like that off of it. They’re going to take shots down the field. You better have them covered, because they got some wideouts that can…

  • Utah’s coaches need more ‘disciplined eyes’ from the secondary – Deseret News

Utah’s coaches need more ‘disciplined eyes’ from the secondary – Deseret News

Through two games, what grade would Utah cornerbacks coach Sharrieff Shah give his group?

“If I had to grade us right now as a unit, it would be like a C-, and that’s being really gracious on the grades,” Shah said.

Contrary to Shah’s assessment, the stat sheet paints a favorable picture of Utah’s secondary, and defense as a whole. The Utes have allowed just 9.5 points per game (21st in the nation), 147 passing yards per game (32nd in the nation) and have intercepted three passes, including a pick-six by cornerback Jackson Bennee.

There’s been good plays — including Bennee’s pick-six against Cal Poly, which extended Utah’s interception-return-for-a-touchdown streak to an NCAA-record 22 seasons.

Yes, the competition was UCLA — which looks so far to be a lower-tier FBS team — and FCS Cal Poly, but when a team allows just one touchdown over its first two games, there’s definitely more good than bad happening in the secondary.

Bennee has stood out so far at nickel with his pick-six, plus another near interception and three pass breakups against Cal Poly. Smith Snowden has also done fairly well in coverage, even with the addition of being a significant contributor on offense on his plate.

When coaches turn on the tape, however, they see plenty that needs fixing in the secondary before Big 12 Conference play starts next Saturday against Texas Tech. For Utah’s defense to hit an elite level, however, coaches know that there are things to clean up.

Coverage breakdowns in the first two games didn’t lead to touchdowns or big gains, but against better opponents, they almost certainly would have.

A couple examples: On UCLA’s first drive of the game, former Ute Mikey Matthews was uncovered deep down the field and could have scored if he caught the pass from quarterback Nico Iamaleava, but Iamaleava’s…

  • College Football Power Ratings: Oregon climbs, Texas slides entering Week 3

College Football Power Ratings: Oregon climbs, Texas slides entering Week 3

    Getty Images

“Past is prologue.”  It’s been more than 400 years since Shakespeare wrote that line in “The Tempest,” but it still rings true.

When it comes to the AP Top 25 or Coaches Poll, we all get frustrated when voters lean too heavily on last season and brush aside what we’ve actually seen on the field. Instead of throwing preseason expectations out the window, they treat them as gospel while dismissing early results as flukes.

Power ratings should be different. If opinion polls are reactive, power polls are predictive. They’re not about what has happened, but what’s most likely to happen next. And when it comes to forecasting the future, history is often the best guide. Teams — and humans — are predictable. They repeat patterns, just in slightly different ways.

That’s why a strong power rating must always bake in some history, but with the right balance of past and present. The deeper we go into the season, the more weight 2025 performances will carry. Last week brought little movement, but this week delivers plenty of change — and a clear top tier is starting to form. The top five are tightly packed, with a noticeable drop off behind them.

Our No. 1 stays put, but there’s a new No. 2. And in a reflection of the sport’s current balance of power, 10 of our top 12 teams hail from the SEC or Big Ten. The ACC has one. Then there’s Notre Dame.

Mississippi State fined $500,000 for fans storming the field after beating No. 12 Arizona State

    Getty Images

Mississippi State picked up a big win for the program on Saturday evening when they downed then-No. 12 Arizona State in a 24-20 thriller in Starkville. It was the Bulldogs’ first win over a ranked opponent since the 2022 Egg Bowl when they beat Ole Miss when the Rebels were ranked No. 20 in the country, and the faithful in Starkville made sure to celebrate in kind.

Fans quickly rushed the field and tore down the goalposts in near record time, carrying them out into the Mississippi night, cowbells ringing all the while. It was a joyous scene in Starkville, which has been a rarity over the past two seasons as they’ve gone 7-17, and the school is probably not too upset to pay the $500,000 fine that arrived from the SEC on Monday.

    Brandon Marcello

Storming the field is an automatic fine of half a million from the SEC, with the money for a non-conference incident going to the conference’s post-graduate scholarship fund. Fans are allowed to celebrate on the field if a pre-approved plan is turned in that allows for the opposing team and officials to get off the field before hand, but after…
