A look back at Tennessee’s victory over Georgia football in 1999

No. 15 Tennessee (2-0) will host No. 3 Georgia (2-0) in a SEC opener for both schools Saturday. Rankings reflect the US LBM Coaches Poll.

Kickoff between the Vols and Bulldogs is slated for 3:30 p.m. EDT at Neyland Stadium. ABC will televise the contest.

Each week, Vols Wire revisits a memorable game between Tennessee and its upcoming opponent. Week 3 revisits Tennessee’s, 37-20, victory against Georgia on Oct. 9, 1999 at Neyland Stadium.

Tennessee led, 28-7, at halftime after scoring three touchdowns in the second quarter. The Vols led, 30-7, after the third quarter. Georgia outscored the Vols, 13-7, in the fourth quarter.

Leonard Scott returned a kickoff 100 yards for Tennessee in the fourth quarter after the Bulldogs trailed, 30-20, with 12 minutes remaining.

Tee Martin completed 21-of-35 passing attempts for 283 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He also recorded 49 rushing yards and scored three touchdowns on six attempts.

Jamal Lewis led Tennessee in rushing yards (79). He also totaled two receptions for 29 yards and one touchdown.

Cedrick Wilson led the Vols with eight receptions and 107 receiving yards.
