    Matt Campbell contract: Iowa State coach, all-time wins leader signs extension through 2032, per report

    Three-time Big 12 Coach of the Year Matt Campbell is locked in with Iowa State. The schoolfinalized a contract extension with the winningest coach in program history, keeping him on board through the 2032 season, ESPN’s Max Olson reports. Campbell will make $5 million per year and reportedly agreed to take a discount on his new deal to pave the way for an increased assistant salary pool and to allow Iowa State to set aside an additional $1 million in revenue sharing money.

    According to USA Today’s coach salary database, the $5 million figure would have made Campbell the 42nd-highest paid coach in college football last season, tied with ex-North Carolina coach Mack Brown. It is a substantial bump from the $4 million Campbell made last year, which ranked 53rd nationally.

    The extension and pay raise is a timely one. It capitalizes on the success Campbell delivered last fall in what was by far the best season in Iowa State history. The 11 wins marked the first time the Cyclones ever cracked the double-digit win mark, they returned to the Big 12 Championship Game for the first time since 2020 and their No. 15 ranking in the final AP Top 25 was their second-highest finish to date.

    Dolphins put Kader Kohou on IR, sign QB Brett Gabbert

    Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said earlier this week that cornerback Kader Kohou will miss the entire season with a knee injury and the team made a roster move reflecting that turn of events on Friday.

    Kohou has been placed on injured reserve. The fourth-year player will now begin the process of recovering from the injury and rehabbing to pick up where he left off in 2026.

    The Dolphins filled Kohou’s roster spot by signing quarterback Brett Gabbert. Gabbert, who is the younger brother of former NFL quarterback Blaine Gabbert, spent a couple of months with the team earlier this year after going undrafted in April.

    Gabbert joins Tua Tagovailoa, Zach Wilson, and seventh-round pick Quinn Ewers on the depth chart in Miami.

    The seal has officially been broken on the start of fall camp for the 2025-2026 edition of the Ohio State football team. The Buckeyes are the defending College Football Playoff national champions and will begin to put the building blocks in place to try and make another run.

    To do it, the tone has to be set on the onset of fall camp, and by all indications, that’s exactly what happened inside the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. The Ohio State football creative team is one of the best in the business and is always on the job when it comes to its social media game, and it wasted no time sharing some highlights of the first day of camp.

    PHILADELPHIA — The only player playing hotter than the heat index through the first week of Philadelphia Eagles camp has been Jihaad Campbell. With the heat index reaching triple digits in Thursday’s practice, Campbell’s mindset wasn’t changing as the sun was beaming on his helmet and shoulder pads. 

    The Eagles were in shells and shorts to combat the heat, but Campbell only knows how to play one way: Aggressive.

    This is the way Campbell earned his stardom at the University of Alabama, becoming a first-round pick in this year’s NFL Draft, and contending for the weakside linebacker job next to Zack Baun in Week 1. 

    Full pads. Shells and shorts. Doesn’t matter. Campbell is hustling to the ball every play. 

    It’s a great thing for the Eagles, and a nightmare for opponents. It can also be a disaster for the Eagles if Campbell doesn’t pull back. 

    There have been a few plays Campbell has made in this training camp that might deserve a conversation. The rookie threw Ben VanSumeren to the ground Thursday, which resulted in an injury for the team’s lone fullback.

    Only three short years ago, Big 12 teams played a perfect round robin schedule. Every school vied against every other, and so schedules frankly rarely paid much relevance. As the conference exploded from 10 to 16 teams, though, schedules have never been more important. 

    In this era, getting a good draw can make all the difference. Reigning Big 12 champ Arizona State was able to ramp up in the middle of last season to prepare for top contenders Kansas State and BYU in the second half of the year. Iowa State played six teams in conference that missed bowl games. Chances are, the teams with the easiest schedule this year will also have a huge advantage to reaching the postseason. 

    Now granted, here’s the thing: In the Big 12, the strength of schedules are somewhat unpredictable. Two years ago, West Virginia appeared to be facing one of the hardest schedules in the league, but ended up with the easiest. Additionally, every team in the conference has FanDuel win totals between 5.5 and 8.5. The teams are, frankly, just not far enough apart that there can be free rides. 

    That said, getting a good draw can make all the difference in flying through the schedule, picking up tiebreakers and earning a trip to AT&T Stadium to play for a Big 12 title. With that in mind, here’s how we rank the toughest schedules in the conference in 2025.

    ASHBURN, Va. — When the Washington Commanders acquired Deebo Samuel in March, the receiver had an idea of what to expect.

    Samuel had played against head coach Dan Quinn’s defenses during his time with the San Francisco 49ers. And Samuel had played two division games a year against now-Washington offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury’s teams when Kingsbury coached the Arizona Cardinals.

    But playing against a team doesn’t fully replicate the experience of playing for it.

    And six years in Kyle Shanahan’s potent offense didn’t familiarize Samuel with what’s expected in Washington.

    “Not at all,” Samuel told Yahoo Sports. “It’s a no-huddle [offense here]. It’s just signals. You got to pay attention to the small things and you got to pay attention to [quarterback] Jayden [Daniels] because he’s giving the signals really quick.

    With the 49ers, Samuel says, “we always had huddle.”

    The Commanders and 49ers were on opposite ends of the no-huddle spectrum last season. While Washington went no-huddle on a whopping 61.5% of its plays, San Francisco ditched the huddle on just 3.2% plays, according to TruMedia data.

    The Commanders ran 1,101 offensive plays compared to the 49ers’ 1,026.

    Put it together: The Commanders lined up without a huddle more than 670 times last season, while the 49ers did so just 33 times.

    Samuel’s observation doesn’t reflect just the 49ers’ 27th-ranked no-huddle usage. It also reflects the Commanders’ more than doubling the second-place Chicago Bears’ 25.2% no-huddle usage, and more than quintupling (that’s five times!) the league average 12.0% no-huddle clip.

    Since the 2003 start of TruMedia data on no-huddle usage, only two units had ever used no-huddle at a higher rate than the 2024 Commanders: the Chip Kelly Philadelphia Eagles in 2013 (66.7%) and 2015 (72.%).

    The Oregon Ducks have had a pretty fun summer when it comes to the recruiting world, landing 5-star players like Immanuel Iheanacho and Jett Washington, along with numerous other high-end 4-star players. That fun looks like it may continue soon.

    On Wednesday, 5-star EDGE Anthony ‘Tank’ Jones announced that he will be making his commitment live on the Pat McAfee Show on ESPN Thursday morning, choosing between the Ducks, the Alabama Crimson Tide, and the Texas A&M Aggies.

    It appears that Oregon is emerging as a late favorite in this recruiting battle.

    According to 247Sports, a new prediction has come down for the Ducks to land Jones, who is rated as the No. 18 player and No. 4 EDGE in the 2026 class. The 247Sports Recruiting Staff logged an expert prediction with a confidence level of 6 in favor of Oregon.

    This recruitment has been one to watch over the past couple of months as teams vie for Jones’ commitment. Early on, it appeared that Alabama led the way for the St. Paul’s Episcopal prospect, but over the past couple of weeks, more buzz has been growing for Oregon’s favor, and there is a fundamental belief that the Ducks could land him on Thursday.

    Over the next 12 hours, don’t be surprised to see more predictions come in as recruiting analysts get more intel on the situation.

Only a select few, after all, have the luxury of deploying a transcendent talent under center, leaving the rest of the league to bank on more volatile signal-callers.     The answer is yes and no. Some, like the Green Bay Packers and San Francisco 49ers, are enjoying the latest in a long and proud line of star quarterbacks.
