  • 2025 College Football Rankings Week 3 Top 25: New Top 5! Oklahoma stock up, Florida, Clemson, SMU, ASU down

2025 College Football Rankings Week 3 Top 25: New Top 5! Oklahoma stock up, Florida, Clemson, SMU, ASU down

Points, points, points! That was the theme of Week 2 as we saw Florida State (77), Tennessee (72), Ohio State (70), Oregon (69), Nebraska (68), Utah (63), and Texas Tech (62) all score more than 60 this weekend.

In fact, 12 out of my top 25 teams on this list scored at least 40 points on Saturday as non-conference action inches closer to ending. Oh, and also upsets happened!

Florida went down to a smaller interstate rival, while Arizona State fumbled the bag to the bottom of the SEC. Oklahoma topped Michigan in one of the better games of the nightcap, and teams like Alabama and Texas who are coming off losses bounced back, while Clemson looked completely lost for a half.

My top 10 is shaken up slightly because teams like Clemson and Miami had to be taken out for different reasons, while Oregon and Miami continue to impress. There is plenty of movement in the teens compared to last week, and there’s new some faces in the back end of the poll that could continue their climb toward the top 10 like USF and Tennessee pending this weekend.

Let’s take a look at this week’s rankings and where each team lands! Be sure to check out DraftKings for all the latest game odds & team props for every matchup this week on the College Football schedule!

    Vaughn Dalzell’s Week 3 Poll

    1. Ohio State Buckeyes (2-0, 0-0)
Next Game: Saturday at 7 PM ET — Ohio at Ohio State (-32.5)
Last Game: 70-0 win vs Grambling

One of the most surprising yet unsurprising scores of the weekend was…

Steelers overreactions from Week 1 win over Jets: Aaron Rodgers still elite? Is the run defense still horrible?

Aaron Rodgers’ first game with the Steelers ended with him cupping his hand to his ear after leading Pittsburgh to a 34-32 win over the Jets, the team that unceremoniously parted ways with him this offseason after just two seasons.

The Steelers needed every bit of Rodgers’ 41-year-old right arm to leave New Jersey with a win. While everyone expected a low-scoring defensive game, fans were instead treated to a high-scoring shootout that included seven total touchdowns from Rodgers and fellow quarterback Justin Fields, who scored three touchdowns against his former team.

Rodgers was the biggest reason why the Steelers won, but special teams also played a considerable role in the win. Chris Boswell drilled a game-winning, 60-yard field goal that followed a huge forced fumble by Pittsburgh’s gunners that set up Rodgers’ go-ahead touchdown pass to Calvin Austin III early in the fourth quarter that proved to be a key turning point.

NFL Week 1 grades: Aaron Rodgers leads Steelers to wild win and solid mark, Bengals survive ugly opener

    John Breech

Now that the dust has settled, let’s take a look at some of the possible overreactions from Pittsburgh’s win over New York.

    Aaron Rodgers is still elite

While he may no longer be No. 1, Rodgers is still a highly-gifted quarterback who is still more than capable of leading a team to victory. Rodgers’ right arm is still lighting quick and extremely accurate, his football IQ is higher than ever and his mobility is still good enough to extend plays. That makes…

Billy Napier buyout, contract details as Florida football coach

    Getty Images

No. 13 Florida Gators’s loss to South Florida on Saturday in Gainesville was one of the most stunning upsets early in the 2025 college football season, and it has put Florida coach Billy Napier firmly back on the hot seat.

Even coming off a win over Boise State last week, few expected the Bulls to have enough for the Gators over 60 minutes in The Swamp; USF entered the game as 18.5-point underdogs. However, a week after Alex Golesh’s team shut down Boise’s offense, they did the same to DJ Lagway and the Gators, holding Florida to 16 points and pulling off the upset on a walk-off field goal to win 18-16.

South Florida shocks No. 13 Florida on 20-yard walk-off FG as late penalties cost Gators

    Cameron Salerno

How much is Billy Napier’s contract buyout at Florida?

That loss immediately sparked an angry reaction from the Florida fan base, with many wondering what the cost would be to get rid of Napier. Napier signed a seven-year, $51.8 million deal back in 2021 with a base salary that increases $100,000 every year. His salary for 2025 is $7.4 million, with another $22.8 million due to him over the next three seasons through January 2029.

The Florida coach’s buyout is 85% of his current…

Buccaneers -1.5: “The Bucs are the favorites in the division, but the Falcons are considered the top threat. That makes this a big opener. Both teams have injuries on their offensive lines, which could impact the game, but I think Baker Mayfield is ready for a big year. The Falcons still have some defensive questions, which will show up. Michael Penix Jr. won’t keep up. Bucs take it.” — CBS Sports senior NFL writer Pete Prisco on why he has the Bucs taking down the Falcons, 28-24. Click here to see all of Prisco’s Week 1 picks.

  • Week 2 postgame report card for Penn State

Week 2 postgame report card for Penn State

No. 2 Penn State continued its nonconference stretch on Saturday with a 34-0 win over FIU that was comfortable but not convincing. The Nittany Lion offense was sluggish in the first half with only 10 points, but the defense more than picked up the slack by pitching a shutout and preventing the Panthers from making this game close. Here’s a position-by-position breakdown of how Penn State fared.

    Quarterback: C

It certainly wasn’t Drew Allar’s cleanest performance on Saturday. The senior quarterback wasn’t as accurate as we’ve come to expect, especially in the first half. He underthrew a few deep passes, threw behind receivers on several plays and completely missed Nick Singleton on a swing pass on a third-and-7. His highlight of the first half was the touchdown pass to Khalil Dinkins, where he was flushed out of the pocket and put a nice touch on the ball to get it over the defender.

Allar and the offense as a whole looked better in the third quarter. Allar hit quick passes and used tempo well to move the ball downfield. His 42-yard touchdown pass to Devonte Ross was a pretty rainbow, and his Ross came through with a great catch. He finished the game with 200 yards and two touchdowns on 58% completion.

    Running Backs: B+

Penn State ran the ball well against FIU, with Kaytron Allen and Nick Singleton combining for 220 yards and two touchdowns on 29 total carries. Allen had the best play of the game late in the fourth quarter, showcasing his vision and balance by tightroping the sideline for a 67-yard touchdown. During the first half, the running backs were contained pretty well by FIU, but over time, they started getting bigger gains. You’d like to see the big plays come earlier, but overall not much to complain about.

    Receivers and Tight Ends: B

Penn State worked a lot of short passes against the Panthers, but didn’t have…

  • How I became a Buffalo Bills fan – and learned what home means

How I became a Buffalo Bills fan – and learned what home means

On 14 October 2024, having never supported a team before, or, to be honest, especially liked sports at all, I became a Buffalo Bills fan. I’d been going out with my Buffalonian boyfriend for more than a year, which I think in his parents’ eyes meant my introduction to the team that animates their entire hometown was overdue. They drove down to New York City, kitted me out in a Bills baseball cap, hoodie and blanket (and plastic Bills bag to hold it all in) – and took me to a game.

I thought I’d seen enough Super Bowls to know I didn’t care about football, but wrapped in that staticky blanket, one of the few spots of Buffalo blue in a snake-green sea of Jets supporters at MetLife Stadium, I realized what I’d been missing: a team. Or more specifically: this team.

Related: NFL 2025 season predictions: will it be Mahomes, Jackson or Allen in the Super Bowl?

In Buffalo, the Bills are everywhere. I used to find this bewildering on my trips up to western New York (never call it upstate); now I find it comforting. Signs saying “Billieve” welcome you into people’s houses; babies wear Bills onesies; coats, T-shirts, jewellery and underwear all feature the team’s chic streaking buffalo. Even in the off-season, a car’s horn tooting “Let’s go Buffalo!” can set off canon of identical beeps from nearby vehicles. “Go Bills” means both hello and goodbye, sometimes even the last goodbye, as I discovered in a local cemetery, where a grave featured the phrase as an epitaph. I’m sure it’s not the only one.

That’s because the Bills are Buffalo. They’re the spirit of the city, and for many Buffalonians, a metaphor for it too. Buffalo’s boom times are long behind it, though the architectural marvels built by the money flowing through the Erie Canal speak to its former importance as an industrial hub. The city is generally depicted as hard on its luck, featuring in the news usually only when there’s a disaster, like the shooting of 10…

Where to watch Chiefs vs. Chargers in Brazil: TV channel, live stream, prediction, pick, odds, spread

The NFL is back. And so is international competition. One day after the Philadelphia Eagles topped the Dallas Cowboys to open the 2025 season, the reigning AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs are set to continue the Week 1 action by squaring off with the rival Los Angeles Chargers overseas. It’s the league’s second annual Friday night Brazil game, and the AFC West foes will go head to head in one of the largest cities in the world, putting a pair of potential title contenders on a global stage.

The anticipated matchup also marks a first for broadcasting purposes, as the game will be exclusively — and freely — available to stream (more on that below). But all eyes will be on the field, where Patrick Mahomes and Co. are looking to erase the stink of their Super Bowl LIX blowout at the hands of the Eagles. Appearing in five of the last six championships, the Chiefs are aiming to reimplement splash plays on offense, but they’ll be without top wide receiver Rashee Rice, who’s just beginning a six-game suspension.

The Chargers, meanwhile, are coming off a mostly promising debut under Jim Harbaugh, who led the club to the playoffs in 2024, only to go one-and-done thanks in part to a deflating postseason showing from star quarterback Justin Herbert. Newly stocked in the running backfield, they’re primed to play more old-school ball, even welcoming back old friends like Keenan Allen. Whether they’ve got enough fortitude to outlast their battle-tested rivals on neutral turf is yet to be determined.
