Penn State football coach James Franklin got a premium seat for Sunday’s SEC Baseball Tournament championship game clash between Vanderbilt and Ole Miss in Hoover, Alabama. Franklin, who just wrapped up his 12th spring practice with the Nittany Lions, is hanging out in the Commodores’ dugout as they take on the Rebels.

Franklin, who coached at Vanderbilt from 2011-13, remains close friends with Commodores skipper Tim Corbin, dating back to their time together in Nashville.

“I was in Destin (Florida) with my family, we checked the schedule, saw that they were playing today, so we got up early this morning and drove down,” Franklin said in a mid-game interview with the ESPN broadcast. “Me and Tim have been very close since my first year at Vanderbilt.”

Franklin was seen celebrating after Vanderbilt third baseman Brodie Johnston hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning to give the Commodores a 2-0 lead.

Current Vanderbilt football coach Clark Lea is also in attendance at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium, though he’s occupying a seat behind Vanderbilt’s dugout.

Here’s Lea’s reaction in the stands to a fifth-inning homer from Jacob Humphrey, who went on to receive a congratulatory high five from Franklin at the end of the dugout.

In three seasons at Vanderbilt, Franklin amassed a 24-15 record with three bowl appearances (and two wins) prior to his hiring at Penn State ahead of the 2014 season. Before Franklin’s arrival, Vanderbilt had four bowl appearances in program history.

Franklin has remained a steady Vanderbilt baseball supporter…

Jaguars rookie Travis Hunter marries fiancée Leanna Lenee, surprises her with six-figure gift

Jacksonville Jaguars rookie Travis Hunter married fiancée Leanna Lenee on Saturday in Tennessee, just weeks after being selected No. 2 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft.

During the celebration, video posted to social media showed the newlyweds cutting a ribbon that was holding up a white covering around a Mercedes-Benz AMG G63 Brabus 800 — a luxury SUV reportedly worth up to $700,000. The high-end vehicle appeared to be a wedding gift from Hunter to his new wife.

The couple began dating in 2022 and continued their relationship while Hunter starred at both Jackson State and Colorado, where he won the Heisman Trophy in 2024. Their relationship drew public scrutiny late last year after a viral video from the Heisman ceremony and resurfaced social media clips sparked criticism, prompting both to briefly deactivate their various accounts.

Lenee attended the NFL Draft in Green Bay with Hunter and his mother.

Hunter’s historic two-way talents shine in college

Hunter was the top player in college football last season at Colorado, becoming the first to win the Heisman Trophy as a dual-position standout since Michigan’s Charles Woodson won in 1997 as a defensive back, return specialist and part-time wide receiver. Hunter also won both the Bednarik Award as the best defensive player in college and Biletnikoff Award as the most outstanding receiver.

He logged 1,483 total snaps — the most of any FBS player — with 714 on offense, 748 on defense and another 21 special teams, showcasing elite endurance, even at high altitude in Boulder, Colorado. Offensively, Hunter led the Buffaloes with 96 catches for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns, ranking top-five nationally in all three categories. He also had a team-high four interceptions and 11 passes defensed.

Hunter launched his college career at Jackson State in 2022, committing to play for Deion Sanders in a historic recruiting twist. A five-star…

  • Ex-NFL punter Marquette King pulls off incredible fake in UFL action

Ex-NFL punter Marquette King pulls off incredible fake in UFL action

Former All-Pro punter Marquette King is still going at age 36 in the UFL, and he just posted one of the neatest plays of his career.

Now suiting up for the Arlington Renegades, King pulled off the kind of fake some punters only dream of in the second quarter against the Memphis Showboats. He had the ball out and looked so ready to punt a Memphis player ran in front of him to block the kick, then tucked it and ran for a 37-yard gain.

That drive-extending play resulted in a field goal for Arlington, which went on to win 30-12. The Renegades’ season will end next week as the DC Defenders and St. Louis Battlehawks have already clinched berths in the UFL conference championship game.

King was an at-times effective and at-times controversial punter during his NFL career. He led the league in punting yards in 2014 and earned second-team All-Pro honors in 2016, the same year he received a five-year, $16.5 million contract from the Raiders. By punter standards, it was an enormous deal.

However, personal clashes and some other limitations meant quite a few people were happy to see him go when the Raiders surprisingly cut him in 2018. He found further employment with the Denver Broncos for a season, but was left wondering what happened to his NFL career in 2021. He has been in and out of the XFL and its successor UFL since then.

  • Former SEC QB ‘not sold’ on Arch Manning hype despite being odds-on favorite to win Heisman Trophy

Former SEC QB ‘not sold’ on Arch Manning hype despite being odds-on favorite to win Heisman Trophy

Before crowning Texas quarterback and 2025 Heisman frontrunner Arch Manning as college football’s next great quarterback, a bigger sample size is needed, according to former Georgia signal-caller Aaron Murray. The SEC’s all-time leader in passing yards and touchdowns warned this week the hype surrounding Manning entering his first season as the Longhorns’ starter needs to be scaled back a bit.

Manning made three early-season appearances last fall, including a pair of starts following an injury to Quinn Ewers. As a redshirt freshman, Manning completed 50 of 72 passes for 806 yards and 10 total touchdowns.

“I am not sold like so many other people are that this guy is going to be the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft, that he’s just going to be unbelievable,” Murray said this week on SiriusXM’s College Sports Channel with Dari Nowkhah. “That he’s going to be the next coming of Peyton and Eli, but that’s mobile. If you are so good, and everyone has you projected as the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft come 2026, why in the hell are you not playing above a seventh-round quarterback?”

Murray said Manning “doesn’t scream first-round talent” after watching his film and kept coming back to Ewers — the Longhorns’ 2024 starter — keeping his spot over the former five-star and top-ranked player in the 2023 recruiting cycle.

Manning is projected as No. 1 overall pick in one of CBS Sports’ latest 2026 NFL mocks and has been power-rated as a top-tier quarterbacks in various rankings entering the new campaign. DraftKings sportsbook has Manning as the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy (+700).

“If Steve Sarkisian knows what he’s doing and he knows how good their roster is, which I’ve talked to a lot of coaches and a lot of different teams and I asked them,…

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway announced Friday that Casey Irsay Foyt, the daughter of the late Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay, will serve as the honorary starter and wave the green flag for Sunday’s 109th Indianapolis 500. Irsay Foyt being named the starter came two days after the passing of her father, who died Wednesday at the age of 65. The Speedway will use the start of the Indianapolis 500 to honor Irsay’s legacy and impact on Indianapolis, Central Indiana and beyond.

Irsay Foyt, a Colts employee working in marketing and community relations, is linked to Indianapolis Motor Speedway royalty as the wife of former IndyCar driver and 2002 Indy Lights champion A.J. Foyt IV. Irsay Foyt is the granddaughter-in-law of the legendary A.J. Foyt, whose four Indianapolis 500 wins ties him for most all time.

“As Indianapolis prepares for a special weekend that showcases our city’s unmatched ability to successfully host massive global sporting events, it’s incredibly appropriate and especially meaningful to celebrate Jim’s contributions to our city and state,” Penske Entertainment president and CEO Mark Miles said. “Put simply, the Indianapolis we know and love would not be remotely possible without Jim.”

“We’re honored to have Casey on the flag stand representing her family, our friends at the Colts organization and Hoosiers everywhere who cherish our unique sports scene,” said IndyCar and IMS president J. Douglas Boles. “Our organizations have a deep history together, and our fans cherish the familiar sight of players at the racetrack and drivers at the stadium.”

Following Irsay’s death, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway issued a statement calling Irsay “an incredibly kind, brilliant and dedicated…

Texas offers 4-star RB Amir Brown

The Texas Longhorns currently have one commitment in their 2027 recruiting in four-star linebacker Taven Epps. This week, they made efforts to bolster their class for that cycle by offering four-star running back Amir Brown.

247Sports composite rankings have Brown as the nation’s No. 317 player and the No. 23 running back of his class. When it comes to prospects in North Carolina, Brown is No. 11 in the rankings.

The 5-foot-11, 205-pounder is coming off a productive campaign for Rolesville High School. He averaged 6.6 yards per carry on 93 attempts as he racked up 612 yards and scored 11 touchdowns. Brown was also effective as a pass catcher with 269 yards on 15 receptions and two scores.

  • Browns coach Kevin Stefanski likes what he sees from Shedeur Sanders so far: ‘He’s working really, really hard’

Browns coach Kevin Stefanski likes what he sees from Shedeur Sanders so far: ‘He’s working really, really hard’

The Cleveland Browns raised some eyebrows when they selected quarterback Shedeur Sanders in the fifth-round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Questions arose about Sanders’ ability and character in the days leading up to the event, causing the quarterback to plummet further than anyone expected.

A month after the draft, the Browns probably feel pretty good about that decision. Head coach Kevin Stefanski had nothing but good things to say when asked about how Sanders has adjusted to the NFL so far.

“He’s in there early, he’s getting his work done. He’s working really, really hard,” Stefanski told ESPN Cleveland. “I like everything there is about Shedeur.”

Stefanski made that comment while discussing the Browns’ other rookies. While he was complimentary about Sanders’ work, it sounds like Stefanski was pleased with the way most of the team’s draftees have performed thus far.

In Sanders’ case, though, the compliment could carry extra weight. The Browns don’t have the most talented quarterback depth chart, leaving room for Sanders to work his way into a starting role if he performs well.

The Browns brought in both Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett during the offseason, but neither player should present a massive challenge if Sanders lives up to his most optimistic scouting reports. At 40, Flacco is clearly at the tail end of his career. And while Pickett is a former first-round draft pick, he hasn’t lived up to those expectations yet.

Rookie Dillon Gabriel — who the Browns selected in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft — could prove to be Sanders’ biggest barrier to securing the starting role. Both of their performances will be scrutinized closely during training camp and in the preseason.

If Sanders is unable to secure the team’s starting job immediately, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Few fifth-round picks are elevated into starting roles on Day 1.

The early returns sound promising, though. Stefanski’s comments seem to indicate the negative chatter…
