Tyler Boyd would welcome a chance to play for the Steelers

Tyler Boyd is a Pittsburgh native. He played college football at Pitt. After nine NFL seasons, he’d like to continue his pro career with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“Absolutely,” Boyd told Pittsburgh Sports Now on Saturday, via Bryan DeArdo of CBSSports.com. “You know, all my family is here. I’d be able to have the majority of them be able to support me.”

He expressed interest in signing with the Steelers a year ago, after eight seasons with the Bengals. He landed with the Titans instead.

Boyd is once again making it known he’d like to come home.

“I’m real cool with [coach Mike] Tomlin,” Boyd said. “He’s always been a good person. . . . When I was at Pitt, we had a good relationship. After practice, I’d walk over there, talk to [Antonio Brown] and those guys, talk to Tomlin, and he’d just pick at different things, where I could get better and get some guidance. I think we had a great friendship.”

The Steelers could use another veteran receiver. They haven’t added one since trading George Pickens to the Cowboys in May.

Boyd had back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2018-19. In 16 games last year with the Titans, he had only 39 catches for 390 yards.

Newcomers for 2025 are DK Metcalf and Robert Woods. Calvin Austin III will be expected to step up. And the Steelers are hoping to get something/anything from 2024 third-rounder Roman Wilson in his second season.

NFL free agency: Veteran receiver says he is ‘absolutely’ interested in possibly signing with the Steelers

For a second consecutive year, Tyler Boyd has publicly expressed interest in playing for his hometown team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, who could use some help at receiver after they traded George Pickens to the Cowboys in early May.

A Pittsburgh native, the 30-year-old Boyd reportedly had discussions about a possible homecoming with the Steelers last offseason before signing a one-year deal with the Titans. A longtime Cincinnati Bengal, Boyd caught just 39 passes for 390 yards during his lone season in Nashville.

“Absolutely,” Boyd told Pittsburgh Sports Now at his youth camp on Saturday. “You know, all my family is here. I’d be able to have the majority of them be able to support me.”

Boyd feels that signing with the Steelers is a realistic possibility. While he said that things have been quiet lately, Boyd noted that he expects to hear from teams once training camps start to open up next month.

“I’m real cool with [Mike] Tomlin,” he said. “He’s always been a good person. … When I was at Pitt, we had a good relationship. After practice, I’d walk over there, talk to [Antonio Brown] and those guys, talk to Tomlin, and he’d just pick at different things, where I could get better and get some guidance. I think we had a great friendship.

  • College football wild card teams: USC, Oklahoma among the sport’s biggest mysteries entering 2025 season

College football wild card teams: USC, Oklahoma among the sport’s biggest mysteries entering 2025 season

College football’s margins have only grown slimmer following the latest wave of conference realignment. The reshaped landscape has flattened the competitive curve, turning every conference schedule into a week-to-week grind. The difference between a playoff contender and a team scrapping for bowl eligibility can come down to a few untimely injuries or bad breaks in one-score games. As a result, several teams enter the 2025 season with floors and ceilings that are miles apart.

Last season, several programs shattered expectations — for better or worse. Few predicted Arizona State’s colossal breakthrough, nor did many expect Indiana to post the best season in school history. On the other side, it would’ve taken a psychic to foresee Florida State’s collapse into a two-win disaster.

Surprises are baked into the fabric of college football. Identifying them before they happen is, by nature, an extreme challenge. But reading the tea leaves on some of the sport’s biggest mystery teams offers a glimpse into their potential to either overachieve or disappoint.

Here are college football’s biggest wild cards heading into the 2025 season.

All playoff odds via FanDuel Sportsbook.

    Odds to reach CFP: +520

The five wins Utah posted last season matched the fewest of its power conference era and snapped a bowl streak that dated back to 2014. Long story short: that’s probably not happening again. There would be ample shock value in seeing a team go from below .500 to the playoff in the span of one…

  • Rams’ Jared Verse says Eagles have best opposing fan base after saying he hates them

Rams’ Jared Verse says Eagles have best opposing fan base after saying he hates them

Jared Verse of the Los Angeles Rams made his feelings about Philadelphia Eagles fans known in January telling Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times, “I hate Eagles fans. They’re so annoying. I hate Eagles fans.”

The Eagles and their fans got the last laugh days later when Philadelphia beat the Rams with a 28-22 victory to advance to the NFC Championship game. Verse would record four tackles, three for loss and two sacks in the defeat.

Now after experiencing Eagles fans as an NFL rookie, Verse, who lived a few hours north of Philadelphia during his high school playing days, is showing respect to one of the league’s most boisterous fan bases.

In an interview with Casey Rieger of Whistle Sports this week, Verse said that the Eagles are the best opposing fan base and have the toughest crowd to play in front of at Lincoln Financial Field.

“I’ve got to give them that,” Verse said. “It’s just because I like when you kind of get into it, you’re aggressive, you’re loud. They stand by that with no doubt.”

“Playing the Eagles is like playing your rival in college because you never know what they’re going to say and they’re going to try to say disrespectful stuff,” Verse said. “Don’t get me wrong, they’re not going to say anything where it’s like, ‘Bro, you crossed the line.’ But they’re going to say something where you’re like, ‘Hey, who you talking to?’”

Verse expressing respect won’t change the minds of any Eagles fans when they see one another again. The two sides won’t have to wait long to get reacquainted. The Week 3 schedule for the upcoming season will see the Rams visit Philadelphia for the first time since their playoff matchup.

Despite his battles with Eagles fans, it was a fruitful rookie season for the 24-year-old Verse. After being selected 19th overall out of Florida State in the 2024 draft, the linebacker went on to win NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and earn his first trip to the Pro Bowl.

  • Predicting the first-team All-Big Ten offense

Predicting the first-team All-Big Ten offense

The Big Ten is arguably more talented than it’s ever been thanks to the addition of four West Coast programs – including two recruiting powerhouses – and the transfer portal, which has allowed top teams another avenue to bring in talented players.

With the conglomeration of talent within the conference, earning a spot on the end-of-season All-Big Ten teams is a tough task. Here’s my prediction for how the postseason first-team All-Big Ten offense will look.

    Quarterback: Drew Allar, Penn State

It’s easy to point to Allar’s shortcomings in big moments, including poor performances against Ohio State and Notre Dame last season, but it’s also clear the former 5-star recruit has improved year over year. In his first season under offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki, Allar’s completion percentage jumped from 59.9% to 66.5%, and his average yards per completion increased considerably from 6.8 to 8.4. His one regression came in the touchdown-interception ratio, a side effect of pushing the ball downfield, but it was still a solid 24-8 mark in 2024. With another year working under Kotelnicki and a revamped wide receiver room – including a real threat in the slot for the first time – Allar could be poised for another leap forward. Looking at the rest of the Big Ten, Ohio State, Michigan and Oregon are all breaking in new quarterbacks, and many other teams don’t have the surrounding talent to produce big offensive numbers. Due to a lack of proven commodities around the league, Allar should be viewed as the frontrunner for this honor. It wouldn’t be surprising to see a young quarterback like Dylan Raiola or Bryce Underwood jump up and take this spot, but it’s hard to project that at this point in the offseason.

Running back: Nick Singleton, Penn State

One of the top running backs in the country, Nick Singleton will return for his…

49ers CB Deommodore Lenoir booked in Los Angeles after officers allege resistance to arrest in traffic stop

    Getty Images

San Francisco 49ers cornerback Deommodore Lenoir was booked for resisting arrest in Los Angeles after a traffic stop, according to LAPD.

Officers reported double-parked vehicles blocking traffic when they approached Lenoir and another man, and then noticed a gun in a parked vehicle. When police say they asked for the keys to the car, the other suspect threw the keys to Lenoir, who attempted to keep them away from officers as well.

The other person arrested was identified as Marcus Cunningham, who faces a felony charge of possession of a concealed firearm in a vehicle. Lenoir was released early Friday. The 49ers later issued a statement saying they are, “aware of the matter … and are in the process of gathering further information.”

The 25-year-old Lenoir is a Los Angeles native. He was selected by the 49ers in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of Oregon. Over the last two seasons, Lenoir has recorded a total of 169 combined tackles, 19 passes defensed and five interceptions. In November, he signed a five-year, $92 million extension.

  • Every ACC team’s best, worst case scenario for 2025: Rude welcome for Bill Belichick? Miami makes CFP?

Every ACC team’s best, worst case scenario for 2025: Rude welcome for Bill Belichick? Miami makes CFP?

Every fan base is wondering how many games their team will win this upcoming season, but any win total projection comes with a range of outcomes. So as we begin to look ahead to 2025, we’re focusing on just how good — or bad — things could go for every team.

It was certainly tempting to detail how each team’s best-case scenario, technically, is 12-0 — and the worst case is 0-12 — our hope is to identify a somewhat more realistic range of possibilities. We are too close to the start of the season for that brand of fan fiction, with media days and expert picks set to hit high gear in just a couple of weeks.

The ACC features a couple of teams with College Football Playoff aspirations, but also plenty of squads that could be straddling the line for bowl eligibility. With a couple new coaches — including Bill Belichick — and plenty of programs under pressure, this exercise explores the extremes for our expectations in the fall.

    Odds via FanDuel Sportsbook.

    Odds to win conference: +7000

Best case 7-5: The Eagles tap into some upset magic by taking down at least one of their high-profile visitors, as Clemson, Notre Dame and SMU all make the trip to Chestnut Hill in the final two months of the season. The team still takes some lumps, but Bill O’Brien shows his ability to maximize strengths and win games at the margins for the second year in a row.

Worst case 3-9: The quarterback position never gets settled, the ground game can’t replace last year’s production and…

Fantasy Football Rankings: 3 key players giving Justin Boone headaches this draft season

Every time I sit down to work on my fantasy football rankings and projections, there are always a handful of players who demand more time than others.

Normally, it’s fun to dig deeper into a player’s profile and come away with a better understanding of their outlook moving forward. However, there are plenty of occasions when it ends up being a frustrating process that leads you further down the rabbit hole in search of answers.

[Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season]

Here are three players who forced me to stare into the abyss longer than expected as I contemplated their fantasy values for this season.

    DJ Moore, WR, Bears

For all the excitement over Ben Johnson’s arrival in Chicago, it’s unclear which players will benefit the most in the Bears’ offense.

Moore has been the team’s unquestioned No. 1 receiver the past two years, topping 95 receptions in both campaigns. But he’s coming off one of the more disappointing 98-catch seasons you’ll ever witness, failing to eclipse 1,000 yards and posting career lows in yards per route run (1.44) and yards per touch (9.3).

Meanwhile, the front office spent their first two picks on pass-catchers, TE Colston Loveland and WR Luther Burden III, who will join Rome Odunze and Cole Kmet to provide much stiffer target competition in 2025.

With all the changes around him, Moore expressed uncertainty over how he’ll be deployed in Johnson’s scheme, but it’s important to read the entire Chicago Sun-Times article from early June and not get misled by a quick soundbite.

In the piece, Moore came across as excited about the new offense, which isn’t surprising considering he attended Johnson’s inaugural press conference with the club in January. He also vowed to clean up the bad on-field body language that plagued him at times during that forgettable 2024 campaign. Johnson noticed and praised his efforts, singling out Moore’s motivation and willingness to do…
