    Bill Belichick’s first full high school recruiting class as North Carolina coach got a bump on Wednesday when four-star safety Jakob Weatherspoon flipped his commitment from Ohio State. Weatherspoon adds an eighth four-star commitment to the class for Belichick and the Tar Heels.

    Weatherspoon, a native of Avon, Ohio, initially committed to Ohio State on Jan. 2 as the Buckeyes were on their run to winning a national championship. North Carolina offered Weatherspoon in February and he ended up making a visit to Chapel Hill in early June. A little more than a month later, he changed his pledge to UNC. 

    Weatherspoon is ranked as the No. 233 overall recruit in 2026, according to 247Sports. Additionally, he is ranked as the No. 19 safety and 10th-best prospect in Ohio for his class. He is the 33rd verbal pledge to UNC’s 2026 class and comes in as the fourth-highest ranked recruit behind quarterback Travis Burgess (No. 65), wide receiver Keeyun Chapman (No. 192) and defensive lineman Trashawn Ruffin (No. 195).

    Weatherspoon’s flip also bumps North Carolina from No. 20 to No. 17 in the 247Sports Team Rankings.

    NFL, Fanatics secure preliminary win in antitrust lawsuit over online merchandise sales

    The NFL’s business practices routinely dance on the line of the antitrust lawsuits. Even though they are 32 independent, competitive businesses, they row their boats in the same general direction.

    It has led to legal challenges. In one of them, the NFL has secured a preliminary win.

    Via Reuters, federal judge Andrew Carter Jr. dismissed without prejudice a class action challenging the NFL’s online merchandise distribution rules, which allegedly reduce consumer choices and increase prices. Fanatics is also a defendant in the case.

    In a nutshell, Casey’s Distributing, Inc. argues that the NFL illegally restricts the ability of certain distributors to buy NFL merchandise and to resell it online. The judge found that the civil complaint doesn’t sufficiently allege an antitrust injury.

    “While plaintiffs have been harmed by the actions of the defendants, the law protects competition, not competitors,” the judge wrote in his 12-page ruling.

    It wasn’t a full dismissal; the case is not over. The plaintiff has until July 30, 2025 to amend the complaint to address the flaws in the presentation of the case.

    Because the presiding judge was appointed by President Barack Obama, the basic political affiliation will make the judge more likely to allow the case to proceed. For now, however, the plaintiff has failed to meet the basic bar for pursuing the case against the NFL and Fanatics.

    Nothing Rutledge said is new for those of you who have been paying attention, those of us who cover the program, knowing that starting quarterback Marcel Reed’s improvement this offseason, paired with the returning veterans and 14 transfer portal additions, have the Aggies on the right track to compete for a College Football Playoff berth.

    “I don’t thing enough people are talking about A&M” Rutledge stated. “I don’t want to overdo this, because, I get superstitious about A&M, I have a couple best friends who are A&M fans, so, they get mad at me if I’m overhyping the team, but, I am an honorary A&M fan.”

    Getting Rutlege’s now confirmed A&M fandom out of the way, the SEC host expressed her belief in the Aggies’ ability to get through what is widely seen as one of the toughest schedules in the country.

    “I think they’re gonna be pretty good, Marcel Reed coming back, he’s got way more experience under his belt, and getting thrown into the fire you saw some flashes, you saw some freshman moments, right, it’s a moment of an experience, and now he’s got time under his belt.”

    While harsh, Moss’ take on Hill and where he stands among the game’s all-time great receivers isn’t too far off, especially when you compare Hill’s career numbers to the most prolific wideouts of all-time. 

    Hill, 31, is currently 42nd all-time with 798 career receptions, just behind former Falcons great Roddy White and just ahead of tight end Zach Ertz. He is also 42nd all-time with 11,098 career receiving yards, just behind former Eagles standout DeSean Jackson and just ahead of former Bengals standout Chad Johnson. His 82 career touchdowns is currently tied with Anquan Boldin and Reggie Wayne for 30th all-time. 

    At this point, Hill’s career numbers simply don’t stack up with receivers like Moss or Jerry Rice, who is widely considered to be the greatest receiver of all-time. That will change, however, if Hill can put together at least three more Pro Bowl-caliber seasons before his career is over. 

    Hill’s career is currently on the same trajectory that Antonio Brown’s was when Brown was entering his age 31 season. While his single-season success was nearly unparalleled, Brown needed a few more seasons of high production to truly be considered an as all-time great. Unfortunately for Brown, that was the beginning of a fast decline that has put his future Hall of Fame hopes in jeopardy.
