  • De’Von Achane has a toe injury

De’Von Achane has a toe injury

The Dolphins didn’t practice on Wednesday, two days after a Monday night loss to the Titans. If they had, several keep players would not have practiced.

The biggest name on the DNP list is receiver Tyreek Hill, due to his ankle injury Also not practicing, if there had been practice, were running back De’Von Achane (toe), tackle Terron Armstead (knee, ankle), cornerback Xavien Howard (hip), guard Liam Eichenberg (calf), safety DeShon Elliott (concussion, ribs), and guard Robert Hunt (hamstring).

Achane’s toe injury is a new condition. It bears monitoring the Thursday and Friday reports in advance of Sunday’s game against the Jets.

Meanwhile, running back Raheem Mostert would not have practiced on Wednesday with the joint designation of “knee” and “not injury related.” So he’s both injured, and healthy.

Limited in practice would have been running back Christopher Brooks (knee), safety Jevon Holland (knee), tackle Austin Jackson (oblique), and linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel (oblique).

  • 2023 NFL playoff projections: Eagles steal NFC East from Cowboys, Bills and Broncos both sneak into postseason

2023 NFL playoff projections: Eagles steal NFC East from Cowboys, Bills and Broncos both sneak into postseason

With eight underdogs winning in Week 14, the NFL playoff picture got flipped upside down.

So where does that leave us heading into Week 15 and who’s actually going to make the postseason?

That’s what we’re going to answer right now in this week’s playoff projection. The projections here are based on data from number-cruncher Stephen Oh of SportsLine.com. Oh plugged some numbers into his SportsLine computer this week and simulated the rest of the 2023 NFL season, and using those numbers, we’re going to let you know the playoff chances for all 32 teams, plus the projected 14-team playoff field.

With that in mind, let’s get to this week’s playoff projections (For more from Stephen Oh and his SportsLine “Inside the Lines” team, you can tune into his YouTube channel daily at 1 p.m. ET by clicking here).

    AFC playoff projection

Here’s a list of the playoff chances for all the other AFC teams (their percentage chances of getting into the playoffs is listed next to them in parentheses): Texans (43.9%), Colts (39.3%), Bengals (36.2%), Steelers (28.2%), Raiders (1.2%), Chargers (1.2%), Titans (1.0%), Jets (0.9%), Patriots (ELIMINATED).

    NFC playoff projection

Here’s a list of the playoff chances for all the other NFC teams (their percentage chances of getting into the playoffs is listed next to them in parentheses): Saints (42.3%), Seahawks (31.3%), Rams (29.9%), Falcons (25.3%), Bears (2.4%), Giants (2.1%), Commanders (0.0%) Cardinals (0.0%), Panthers (ELIMINATED).

Note: Although the Saints are 11th in the NFC standings, their playoff chances are unusually high because they still have a chance to win the NFC South, which is factored into their percentage. On the other hand, teams like the Vikings and Seahawks are basically only playing for a wild-card spot at this point.

    (6) Bills at (3) Chiefs

  • Justin Jefferson limited in Tuesday’s practice

Justin Jefferson limited in Tuesday’s practice

Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson has a chest injury that knocked him out of Sunday’s game against the Raiders. Coach Kevin O’Connell called Jefferson day to day on Monday.

On Tuesday, the Vikings listed Jefferson as limited in practice.

He played only 13 of 72 snaps Sunday in his return, having missed the previous seven game with a hamstring injury. Jefferson went to a local hospital for evaluation but returned home with the team.

Jefferson had two catches for 27 yards against the Raiders, giving him 38 receptions for 598 yards and three touchdowns this season.

Running back Alexander Mattison (ankle), receiver Jalen Nailor (concussion) and offensive tackle Brian O’Neill (ankle) did not practice Tuesday.

NFL 2023 playoff picture, standings after Week 14: 49ers become first team to clinch playoff spot

The NFL playoff races are as wild and confusing as ever through the Sunday games in Week 14, making the homestretch of the season one we’ll likely remember. The AFC has 11 teams with winning records and six with 7-6 records, both the most for a single conference through Week 14 since 1970. The NFC has five teams at 6-7, three of which are in the NFC South.

The playoff standings are so crazy, we’ll be switching to a conference format rather than divisions from this point forward. Below, the tiebreakers for each team will be explained.

Here’s a breakdown of the current standings and what each contender is facing after Week 14.

  • Dawand Jones out for season with knee injury

Dawand Jones out for season with knee injury

The Browns have another significant injury to deal with on offense.

Head coach Kevin Stefanski told reporters in his Monday video conference that rookie offensive tackle Dawand Jones is out for the season with a knee injury that requires surgery.

Jones suffered the injury during practice last week and did not play in Sunday’s victory over the Jaguars.

“I’ve seen Dawand make great strides on and off the field,” Stefanski said, via 923 The Fan. “We have a great room. That offensive line room, that’s a room that is great for a young player. i thought he got better as the season went on.”

The Browns already lost right tackle Jack Conklin for the season and left tackle Jedrick Wills has been out for several weeks due to injury as well.

Plus, Cleveland has dealt with losing running back Nick Chubb and quarterback Deshaun Watson to season-ending injuries.

Still, the Browns are 8-5 and the AFC’s current No. 5 seed. Cleveland will host Chicago in Week 15.

  • Patrick Mahomes loses it after Chiefs fall to Bills, explains what made him so angry: ‘It’s tough to swallow’

Patrick Mahomes loses it after Chiefs fall to Bills, explains what made him so angry: ‘It’s tough to swallow’

The Kansas City Chiefs are in the midst of an 8-5 start the 2023 season, good for first place in the AFC West. However, you wouldn’t know it based on how distraught reigning NFL MVP and Super MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes was on the sidelines in the waning seconds of the Chiefs’ 20-17 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. Mahomes was letting the referees hear it after an offsides call on Kadarius Toney negated what would’ve been a wild touchdown.

Here’s a look at the play that was ultimately didn’t count, which included a lateral pass from Travis Kelce to Toney.

Mahomes spoke after the game, making it clear it isn’t about whether it was offsides or not — he recognizes Toney was close to the line and “barely” over — but rather that the typical protocol when it comes to offensive offsides.

“It’s just the call, man, in that moment,” Mahomes said. “It’s not even just for me, I know how much everybody puts into this game, and for it to come to a flag changing the outcome of the game. And in that moment … I’ve played seven years, never had offensive offsides called. That’s elementary school, you point to the ref, it doesn’t get called. They warn you. And there was no warning throughout the game. Then you wait until the end of the game to make a call like that? It’s tough.”

“Who knows if we win, but I know as fans you want to see guys on the field decide the game,” Mahomes said. “Last week I didn’t say anything about the flag that didn’t get thrown on the Marquez (Valdes-Scantling play in a loss to the Packers). I mean they’re human, they make mistakes, but it’s every week we’re talking about something.

“All I can do is go out there and give everything I have and that’s what I did … just another great game that ended like that, it’s just tough to swallow.”

Chiefs coach Andy Reid also was not pleased that officials did not warn him that Toney was lined up offsides the way they…

  • Bills activate Dawson Knox

    Bills activate Dawson Knox

Bills head coach Sean McDermott said on Friday that there was a good chance tight end Dawson Knox would be activated from injured reserve this weekend. The Bills announced that Knox is back on the active roster on Saturday.

Knox hurt his wrist in Week Seven. He had 15 receptions for 102 yards and a touchdown before his injury knocked him out of the lineup.

Linebacker A.J. Klein was waived to create space for Knox on the 53-man roster.

    What to Know

The Atlanta Falcons will be playing in front of their home fans against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 1:00 p.m. ET on Sunday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Atlanta gave up the first points last Sunday, but they didn’t let that get them down. They managed a 13-8 victory over the Jets. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Atlanta.

The team won by holding the Jets to a paltry 259 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to the Falcons’ ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid the passer out four times before it was all said and done. The Jets’ QB won’t forget Bud Dupree anytime soon given Dupree sacked him twice.

Meanwhile, the Buccaneers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 21-18 victory over the Panthers on Sunday.

The Buccaneers’ victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mike Evans, who picked up 162 receiving yards and a touchdown. Evans’ longest reception was for an incredible 75 yards. Another player making a difference was Rachaad White, who rushed for 84 yards and a touchdown.

The win got Atlanta back to even at 6-6. As for Tampa Bay, their victory bumped their record up to 5-7.

Looking ahead, the game is expected to be close, with the Falcons going off as just a 2.5-point favorite. Bettors picking them against the spread have some confidence (to put it mildly), as the team is sitting on a four-game streak of failing to cover when playing…
