2024 Pro Bowl snubs: Josh Allen, Antoine Winfield Jr. among notable names not selected to all-star NFL roster

The NFL has unveiled its 2024 Pro Bowl roster, compiling some of the game’s most elite players and highlighting the stellar season they were able to put together. However, this is admittedly an inexact science and always seems to leave out a handful of worthy candidates. This voting process is broken up into thirds with fans, players, and coaches all getting a say in who makes it in, but stars sometimes slip through the cracks, and this go around is no exception.

Below, you’ll find five players who were snubbed from the 2024 Pro Bowl roster.

You can make an outside argument for Josh Allen to win MVP, and yet he was left off the Pro Bowl roster. The Bills signal-caller has helped resurrect Buffalo’s season and now has them in a position to leap into first place in the AFC East if they can take down the Miami Dolphins on the road on Sunday. Allen’s interceptions were a blemish on his résumé, but you can’t deny his indispensable impact on the Bills offense and overall strong showing this season. His numbers are nearly identical to Patrick Mahomes — who made the roster — and he…

Titans WR Colton Dowell tears ACL, meniscus

Titans rookie receiver Colton Dowell left Sunday’s loss to the Texans in the first half with a knee injury.

The Titans quickly ruled him out, a sign it was a serious injury.

Dowell underwent an MRI on Monday that revealed bad news.

He tore the anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in his right knee, Paul Kuharsky of paulkuharsky.com reports.

The Titans made him a seventh-round pick this spring, and he played 10 games. Dowell saw action on 51 offensive snaps and 139 on special teams and ended with one catch for 3 yards.

  • Eagles’ Nick Sirianni considering resting starters for regular-season finale, even with NFC East at stake

Eagles’ Nick Sirianni considering resting starters for regular-season finale, even with NFC East at stake

The NFC East title is still at stake for the Philadelphia Eagles, needing a win and a Dallas Cowboys loss to seize the division. That won’t prevent head coach Nick Sirianni from resting his starters on an ailing team that has lost four of five games heading into the playoffs.

NFC East title and home game be damned, resting the starters is under consideration.

“Obviously, we always try to think through everything at all times and we are always thinking about those things,” Sirianni said Monday. “We’re going to do whatever we need to do to win this game. But still, that’s a consideration, what you’re saying, because we think through all those different things.”

There are a few factors that come into play with the Eagles resting starters, starting with the potential of inclement weather heading toward the Meadowlands. A significant snowstorm is in the forecast for Sunday. Combine that with the MetLife Stadium turf and that’s a recipe for disaster.

The Cowboys also play at the same time as the Eagles. An early lead by Dallas against the Washington Commanders could also impact how the Eagles approach the game as it goes on.

  • Rams lead Giants 14-10 at halftime

Rams lead Giants 14-10 at halftime

The Rams will get a step closer to clinching a playoff berth with a victory over the Giants on Sunday. But New York isn’t making it easy on Los Angeles, as the Rams have a 14-10 halftime lead.

Running back Kyren Williams opened the scoring for Los Angeles with a 4-yard touchdown. But then Wan’Dale Robinson answered with a 24-yard touchdown run to make the score 7-7.

Both offenses stalled a bit in the second quarter, but the Rams broke the stalemate with Cooper Kupp’s 5-yard touchdown reception to go up 14-7. That capped an eight-play, 46-yard drive.

The Rams had another chance to put points on the board late in the second quarter but Demarcus Robinson fumbled on a reception over the middle. That led to an eventual Mason Crosby 31-yard field goal to make the score 14-10 at halftime.

Matthew Stafford is 19-of-24 for 186 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Williams has 42 yards on 11 carries along with two catches for 14 yards.

Tyler Higbee leads with five catches for 48 yards. Robinson has five catches for 55 yards. Puka Nacua has four catches for 38 yards and Cooper Kupp has three receptions for 21 yards with a TD.

Tyrod Taylor is 12-of-16 for 101 yards with an interception. Robinson leads with 24 yards rushing and three catches for 32 yards.

The Rams have 222 yards and 15 first downs. They have only faced two third downs but are 0-of-2.

The Giants have seven first downs, 128 yards, and are 2-of-6 on third down.

New York will receive the second-half kickoff.

  • CeeDee Lamb breaks Cowboys’ single-season receptions record and Michael Irvin ‘loves it’

CeeDee Lamb breaks Cowboys’ single-season receptions record and Michael Irvin ‘loves it’

FRISCO, Texas —  When a Cowboys wide receiver gets the invite to wear Jersey No. 88, that means they have been identified as worthy to live up to the lofty standard set by those who came before him as Dallas’ top target.

Pro Football Hall of Famer Drew Pearson is the original, wearing the number for 11 seasons from 1973-1983 and becoming a pioneer of the Hail Mary alongside Hall of Fame quarterback Roger Staubach. Hall of Famer Michael Irvin made 88 his as the Cowboys’ top receiver on their three Super Bowl title teams of the 1990s while setting numerous team records. Dez Bryant broke Dallas’ all-time receiving touchdowns record with 73 in his eight seasons (2010-2017) while rocking the double eights.

Today’s No. 88, 24-year-old Pro Bowl wide out CeeDee Lamb, broke one of Irvin’s team records with Irvin in the building for Jimmy Johnson’s induction into the Cowboys’ Ring of Honor Saturday night against the NFC North champion Detroit Lions. Lamb’s 112 catches and counting this season lead the NFL, surpassing Irvin’s single-season Cowboys catches record of 111 that was set in 1995, Dallas’ last Super Bowl championship season.

The downside of the play in which he broke the record is he fumbled the ball out of the end zone for a touchback to give the Detroit Lions the ball right as the Cowboys were about to go up 14-3.

“If we win, it will mean a lot more,” Lamb said Wednesday about breaking Irvin’s record.

    * Two games left in 2023 regular season

Irvin elaborated about his single-season catches record falling at the hands of Lamb on Fox Sports’ “Undisputed” on Friday.

“I love it,” Irvin said when asked about Lamb breaking his record. “If you retire a number and they put it in the rafters, they show it in passing and then go right back to the game. If your number is on the best player’s back, every time he makes a play, they say…

  • Vikings sign Anthony Barr to active roster

Vikings sign Anthony Barr to active roster

The Vikings signed veteran linebacker Anthony Barr to their active roster from their practice squad Friday, the team announced.

Barr, whom the Vikings selected in the first round of the 2014 draft, joined the team’s practice squad in November.

The Vikings elevated Barr from the practice squad to the active roster for Week 11 at Denver and Week 12 against the Bears. In 26 defensive snaps, Barr has one tackle and a fumble recovery.

The team had an open roster spot after placing outside linebacker D.J. Wonnum on injured reserve. Wonnum required surgery to repair a quadriceps muscle.

In addition to signing Barr to the 53-player roster, the Vikings re-signed linebacker Nick Vigil to the practice squad.

The Vikings ruled out four players for Sunday’s game against the Packers. Safety Theo Jackson (toe), cornerback Byron Murphy Jr. (knee), receiver Jalen Nailor (concussion) and defensive tackle Jaquelin Roy (ankle) won’t dress out.

Receiver Jordan Addison (ankle), cornerback Mekhi Blackmon (shoulder/illness) and linebacker Troy Dye (wrist) are questionable.
