The Chargers drafted two of head coach Jim Harbaugh’s players from Michigan over the last few days and they are signing another one of them as an undrafted free agent.

Offensive lineman Karsen Barnhart has agreed to terms with the team. Barnhart start 30 games while playing guard and tackle during his time with the Wolverines. He joins third-round linebacker Junior Colson and seventh-round wide receiver Cornelius Johnson in making the move from Ann Arbor to Los Angeles.

The Chargers also added another quarterback to their depth chart. Casey Bauman threw for 2,878 yards and 29 touchdowns at Augustana last season.

The rest of the undrafted free agents who have agreed to deals with the Chargers are Georgia Tech tight end Luke Benson, Florida State safety Akeem Dent, Fresno State wide receiver Jaelen Gill, Notre Dame safety Thomas Harper, South Dakota State tight end Zach Heins, N.C. State defensive lineman Savion Jackson, Ole Miss linebacker Jeremiah Jean-Baptriste, Oklahoma State wide receiver Leon Johnson III, East Carolina wide receiver Jaylen Johnson, N.C. State cornerback Robert Kennedy, Coastal Carolina defensive lineman Micheal Mason, UCF edge rusher Tremon Morris-Brash, Campbell tackle Tyler McLellan, TCU guard Willis Patrick, Clemson safety Jaylen Phillips, Western Carolina tackle Tyler Smith, Ole Miss corner Zamari Walton, Central Connecticut linebacker Luquay Washington, and Appalachian State offensive lineman Bucky Williams.

A year ago, Colorado took to the field for one of the most highly anticipated college football spring games in recent memory. It marked the official debut of Deion Sanders, who immediately re-energized a program that hadn’t won more than five contests in any of the six seasons leading up to his hiring. Fans packed Folsom Field to form a sellout crowd and the whole affair was broadcast nationally on ESPN. 

Colorado’s 2024 spring game, by comparison, doesn’t have nearly as much buzz surrounding it. That being said, it’s equally as important, if not more so. Most assumed that, no matter how much hype Sanders generated in his first year with the program, it would be a long road toward rebuilding Colorado. 

The Buffaloes actually exceeded expectations by going 4-8 in their first year, anchored by a 3-0 start that saw them climb into the top 20 of the AP poll. Things didn’t go as well from there, but Sanders provided a glimmer of hope with the emergence of stars like his quarterback son Shedeur Sanders and all-world athlete Travis Hunter. 

Following another busy offseason that saw Sanders shuffle plenty of his staff — including major changes at both coordinator positions — and turn his roster over via the transfer portal once more, there’s the hope that the Buffaloes could push for a bowl game as they move over to the Big 12 Conference. That campaign gets started Saturday as Colorado’s 2024 squad takes the field for the first time in front of fans.

What’s colder than ice? Ice Cup. And while some might like it hot, Rutgers football likes it cold with the Friday commitment of Sah’Nye Degraffenreidt.

The commitment of Degraffenreidt is the third commitment in the span of two weeks for Rutgers football as they continue to impress on the recruiting trail.

A three-star wide receiver, Degraffenreidt picked Rutgers over a stacked offer list that included Duke, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Penn State, South Carolina, Syracuse, Vanderbilt and West Virginia among others.

He is a 6-foot-1, 185-pound wide receiver from Atlantic City High School (Atlantic City, New Jersey). He is ranked the No. 20 player in New Jersey’s 2025 class according to Rivals.

A true playmaker, he is a threat on special teams returns. But as a wide receiver, he has explosive speed and can take a part a secondary by going over the top or over the middle.

Degraffenreidt posted a commitment video on Friday.

As his offer list would suggest, Degraffenreidt has a very unique skill set. Rutgers landed a wide receiver who has the potential to be an impact player in Degraffenreidt.

The 2024 NFL Draft’s feeder class of elite high school talent was the Class of 2021, which was wrecked by the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic:  High school seasons were canceled or shortened, in-person visits were wiped out, evaluation opportunities were few and far between.

Even so, the recruiting industry churned out another terrific reminder Thursday night that stars really do matter. Seven five-stars were selected, including No. 1 overall player Caleb Williams, who won the Heisman Trophy. Each of the five-star prospects who were selected in the first round were members of the 2021 class. Further, an outstanding 15 four-star prospects went in the first round, capped by pick No. 32 Xavier Legette. 

The record for most five-star prospects selected in the first round was set in 2023, when 13 such players came off the board night one.
