Colorado extends offer to four-star safety Ladarian Clardy

Ladarian Clardy, one of the highest-ranked safeties in the 2025 recruiting class, announced an offer from the Colorado Buffaloes on Monday.

A consensus four-star prospect, the 6-foot, 175-pound Clardy hails from Pensacola, Florida, and will soon begin his senior season at Escambia High School. The 247Sports composite ranks the Colorado target as the No. 18 safety in his class and the No. 216 overall prospect.

Clardy’s junior year numbers are impressive, to say the least. According to MaxPreps, he racked up 57 total tackles, two TFLs, four interceptions and eight passes defended for the 8-4 Escambia Gators.

Other Power Four programs that have expressed interest in Clardy include the Florida State Seminoles, Miami Hurricanes, Mississippi State Bulldogs, UCF Knights, Washington Huskies and Ole Miss Rebels.

Colorado head coach Deion Sanders currently owns three 2025 commitments: cornerback Alex Graham, linebacker Mantrez Walker and tight end Corbin Laisure.

  • Seahawks hosting this veteran WR for a tryout during their mandatory minicamp, per report

Seahawks hosting this veteran WR for a tryout during their mandatory minicamp, per report

NFL teams have now firmly moved into their 2024 offseason program. The first wave of free agency and the NFL Draft are far in the rearview mirror, and teams are now gathering for OTAs and minicamps.

And during that time, it’s not just the rookies and the stalwarts who participate. This is also a time for veteran free agents to get a shot to show what they can still do, and see if they can use the opportunity to make another roster.

That’s what is happening this week with wide receiver Robbie Chosen, who is attending Seattle Seahawks minicamp on a tryout basis, via NFL Media.

Chosen, who has also gone by names of Robby Anderson, Robbie Anderson, and Chosen Anderson, played the 2023 season with the Miami Dolphins. He appeared in nine games, catching four passes for 126 yards and a touchdown. He previously spent four years with the New York Jets, two-plus with the Carolina Panthers, and part of the 2022 campaign with the Arizona Cardinals. In eight NFL seasons he has 379 receptions for 5,082 yards and 30 scores. Headed into his age-30 campaign, Chosen is trying to extend his NFL career and catch on with another NFC West team.

The Seahawks have a strong top of the depth chart at receiver with DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett and Jaxon Smith-Njigba, but the bottom of the depth chart has more question marks, with Jake Bobo, Dee Eskridge and Laviska Shenault Jr. being the most notable names beyond the top three. If the Seahawks want to add another veteran option for depth, Chosen has shown he can be that type of option.

  • Ohio State football recruiting: DB Faheem Delane commits, nudging Buckeyes past Notre Dame for top 2025 class

Ohio State football recruiting: DB Faheem Delane commits, nudging Buckeyes past Notre Dame for top 2025 class

    247Sports

They don’t hand out offseason championships in college football, but if they did, Ohio State would be No. 1 in every poll. After receiving a commitment from top-rated 2025 safety Faheem Delane Sunday, the Buckeyes are No. 1 in the 247Sports Composite team rankings.

Delane is a big get for the Buckeyes and a player they’ve targeted at the top of their board for a while. He was originally offered by the Buckeyes in May 2022 when Perry Eliano was still the team’s safeties coach. After Tim Walton became the new secondary coach in Columbus, he picked up where Eliano left off with Delane, and his persistence was rewarded.

Delane is the top-rated player from the state of Maryland and the No. 50 player in the 2025 class, per 247Sports. As you’d expect of a premier talent at a premium position, Delane had offers from nearly everybody. Oregon was seen as Ohio State’s primary competition, but Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Michigan, Tennessee, LSU, and every other blue-blood program you can probably think of were after Delane.

The scouting report from 247Sports’ Andrew Ivins:

An aggressive back-seven defender that can cover the pass, defend the run, and get home on the blitz. Owns a college-ready frame having measured roughly 6-foot-2.5, 200 pounds summer before junior season. Quick to trigger and tends to play with tons of confidence. Has been utilized primarily as a box safety and a slot corner at the prep level and found plenty of success in both roles. Physical more times than not and always looking to deliver a blow. Serviceable in man-to-man situations and held his own at Under…

  • Report: Williams ‘eventually’ will want reworked 49ers contract

Report: Williams ‘eventually’ will want reworked 49ers contract

Report: Williams ‘eventually’ will want reworked 49ers contract originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area

The 49ers don’t shy away from paying players what they deserve, and star left tackle Trent Williams reportedly could be next.

During “SportsCenter” on Saturday, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that “there are whispers around some in the industry that [Williams] might want a new deal eventually” (h/t Bleacher Report).

“He’s got the three years left, he’s due $22 million in cash, but he is the best left tackle in the game still,” Fowler said. “Thirty-five years old so that could be a bit of an issue, but playing at high level. The 49ers might have to address that eventually.”

While Williams has considered retirement in the past, the 11-time Pro Bowl selection said he was returning for a 15th NFL season in 2024 on the eve of Super Bowl LVIII, regardless of whether or not his team won the big game. Still ringless and under contract through 2026, it looks like Williams could be in it for the long haul.

Williams signed a record-breaking six-year, $138.06 million contract extension with the 49ers in 2021 after he was traded to the Bay from Washington the year before. Last year, the 49ers restructured the deal and converted $18.23 million of Williams’ 2023 base salary was into a signing bonus, which cleared up $14.58 million in cap space while adding one void year.

But while Williams’ contract was historic at the time, the 49ers star now ranks No. 4 on the list of highest-paid offensive lineman with a $23.01 million annual salary, per OverTheCap.com. Detroit Lions’ Penei Sewell ($28 million), Houston Texans’ Laremy Tunsil ($25 million) and New York Giants’ Andrew Thomas ($23.5 million) all earn more than Williams on a per-year basis.

And despite his age, Williams continue to produce in the trenches for San Francisco, widely regarded as not only the game’s best at his position, but one of the NFL’s best athletes overall. He could be looking to be fairly compensated in…

  • Texas QB Quinn Ewers ranks as second best passer

Texas QB Quinn Ewers ranks as second best passer

With the additions of the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners to the SEC and the expansion to a 12-team College Football Playoff, the 2024 season will be unlike anything we have seen in years past.

With eight more Playoff spots now, teams with two to three losses will be getting into the playoffs and you won’t have to run the table in a loaded SEC to play for a national title.

The move to the SEC could not have come at a better time as the Horns made a CFP appearance for the first time in 2023. Texas will be one of the favorites to compete for an SEC title and national championship in 2024 largely due to quarterback Quinn Ewers.

Six QBs were selected in the top 12 picks of the 2024 NFL draft, so there is a bit of a step down in talent at the position this year. However, for guys like Ewers and Georgia Bulldogs Carson Beck, it’s a great opportunity to become QB1 in the 2025 NFL draft class and potentially win the Heisman Memorial trophy.

Former Alabama quarterback and now ESPN CFB analyst Greg McElroy ranks Ewers as the No. 2 quarterback in the sport heading into the 2024 season behind only Beck. Jalen Milroe of Alabama and Jaxson Dart of Ole Miss were the only other SEC passers on the list.

McElroy said of Ewers, “He looked so much more comfortable last year, and because of the lost weight, I thought he was more athletic. His feet were better. And all of those things helped him to really progress and lead Texas to their first-ever CFP berth.”

  • Packers know they don’t have a No. 1 receiver; here why they ‘don’t think it matters’

Packers know they don’t have a No. 1 receiver; here why they ‘don’t think it matters’

Last season’s Green Bay Packers had one of the most unusual wide receiver rooms in recent NFL history. Every receiver in their regular rotation entered the league in either 2022 or 2023, meaning they were all first- or second-year players.

Christian Watson, the team’s second-round pick in 2022, was the old man of the group at a mere 24 years old. He came into the season expected to operate as the team’s likely top target, but injuries caused him to miss games and limited him in a number of others, and the Packers evolved their offense into a much more egalitarian one. They didn’t really have a go-to wideout.

Romeo Doubs (96) had the most targets, while Jayden Reed led the group in catches (64) and yards (793). Those figures ranked 38th (targets), 35th (catches) and 35th (yards) among receivers leaguewide. Doubs’ 17.1% team target share, via Tru Media, ranked 40th, while Reed’s 24.4% targets per route rate ranked 23rd.

Still not getting the picture? Consider that there were 204 instances last season of a wide receiver being targeted on at least 30% of his team’s pass attempts, and just two of those games belonged to a Packers receiver. To put that in perspective, a Packers opponent targeted one specific wide receiver on at least 30% of their throws in Weeks 11, 13, 14, 15, 17, and 18. That’s six times in eight weeks! That’s how different the Packers’ ball-distribution philosophy was from that of the rest of the league.

Green Bay is now entering the 2024 season with largely the same group on hand. Watson is back, as are Doubs and Reed, along with Dontayvion Wicks, Bo Melton, Malik Heath and Samori Toure. Again, there is not necessarily a “No. 1” type of receiver among that group. But the Packers don’t care.

“I personally don’t think it matters,” head coach Matt LaFleur said, via The Athletic. “I think if you just look at throughout the course of a season ago — and every…

  • College football transfer portal 2024: Net ratings and player totals for every Power Four team

College football transfer portal 2024: Net ratings and player totals for every Power Four team

    USATSI

The transfer portal can improve a program, but how do you really calculate who had the best cycle — and not just which teams landed the best 2024 transfer classes? There are a few ways to break things down and below we analyze the Power Four conferences by categories:

Net Rating GainAverage Transfer RatingTransfers InTransfers Out

Why is it important to look at net rating gain? Not every team adds as much as it subtracts in the portal, so the math rarely matches in the ledgers. So, in an effort to simplify the problem and better evaluate teams as we enter the summer, we took the average rating of the players leaving each program — ratings via the 247Sports transfer rankings team — and compared it to the average rating of the players entering the program. We then distill that number to reach a net gain or net loss.

After doing deep-dives on each conference earlier this week, here’s a more overarching look at how each Power Four team did in the transfer portal’s 2024 cycle. We have sorted each table by the team’s net rating gain, but there’s plenty of other information to glean, too.

    Key ACC transfer portal takeaways

FSU is arguably the most successful program in the portal era, ranking in the top 25 of 247Sports’ rankings every year under Norvell with an average finish at No. 9. The Seminoles have done this despite not exceeding 17 transfers in the last four years, a stark contrast to the likes of Colorado (93 transfers in two years) or Arizona State (60 transfers in two years).
NC State is positioned to win at least eight games for a fifth straight season…..

  • What does early success look like for Maye? Ex-NFL QB shares expectations

What does early success look like for Maye? Ex-NFL QB shares expectations

What does early success look like for Maye? Ex-NFL QB shares expectations originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston

As the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Drake Maye will be counted on to be the next franchise quarterback of the New England Patriots. It’s a challenging situation for the North Carolina product, but head coach Jerod Mayo and Co. have made it clear they won’t rush their young signal-caller into action.

In the meantime, Maye is functioning as the No. 2 QB in OTAs behind veteran QB Jacoby Brissett. Although he’s shown flashes of his potential in practice, he still has plenty of learning to do before establishing himself as the clearcut No. 1 on New England’s depth chart.

What better place to learn than The Quarterback School? Former NFL QB J.T. O’Sullivan, now the founder of TheQBSchool.com, joined Phil Perry on a new Next Pats Podcast to share his assessment of Maye and what he’s looking to see from the rookie.

“From the outside looking in, I would say the expectations are pretty low as far as wins, performance, those types of things,” O’Sullivan said. “So for me, if you go out there and look the part, meaning that you can protect the ball, that you can do plays that help us win, that you’re not hurting the team consistently, that it looks like the game isn’t too fast for you, that you can go out there and execute what the coaches are asking you to do consistently, I think that’s an early indicator of, ‘OK, we might have something going.’ “

There’s a good chance Maye sits behind Brissett for most if not all of the 2024 season. O’Sullivan shared what he believes Maye needs to do to find early success once he is finally named the starter.

“I think it’s going to be unfair to everybody in this (2024 draft) class … to (compare) what (Houston Texans QB) C.J. Stroud did last year, where people are going to come in and…
