The new NFL league year doesn’t kick off until Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET, but the chaos of the offseason is in full swing.

We’ve had stars receive franchise tags (Tee Higgins and Trey Smith), Pro Bowlers get traded (Geno Smith, Deebo Samuel and DK Metcalf), franchise quarterbacks receive pay raises (Matthew Stafford and Josh Allen), All-Pro edge rushers land record-breaking extensions (Maxx Crosby and Myles Garrett) and a whole lot more. And that was before the NFL’s legal tampering period began at noon ET on Monday!

Since teams have been able to negotiate with other clubs’ impending three agents, several high-profile deals have already been agreed to, with the biggest ones being the Seahawks signing Sam Darnold on a three-year contract worth $100.5 million and the Jets signing Justin Fields on a two-year deal worth $40 million. Elsewhere, the Patriots added several key defenders for new head coach Mike Vrabel, the Titans and Bears continued fortifying their offensive lines and the Chiefs secured another offensive weapon for Patrick Mahomes.

From blockbuster moves to bargain-bin shopping, we’ve got you covered below with a running tracker of every team’s 2024 additions, including external signings and trade acquisitions. For more info on all the free agency deals and rumors, click here.

  • What’s new with the Oregon Ducks’ CB room ahead of 2025 spring season?

What’s new with the Oregon Ducks’ CB room ahead of 2025 spring season?

The Oregon Ducks had one of the most successful seasons in program history last year, going 13-1 with a Big Ten Championship win and a No. 1 seed in the College Football Playoff. Now, in 2025, they will look to reach the same heights once again, but this time around with almost an entirely new roster.

Since coming to Eugene, Dan Lanning has recruited at an elite level. In 2025, talent acquisition and development will be tested. Gone are the players from past regimes; in will be the blue-chip players whom Lanning and his staff have hand-picked.

On offense, players like Dillon Gabriel, Tez Johnson, Jordan James, Terrance Ferguson, and Josh Conerly are leaving for the NFL. The defense sees the likes of Jeffrey Bassa, Jordan Burch, Derek Harmon, and Jabbar Muhammad move on as well. So, who will step up and replace them? That’s the million dollar question in Eugene. We have our depth chart projections on offense and defense, but the next several weeks of practice will determine a lot for the Ducks. As we continue our preview of the spring season leading up to Oregon’s annual spring game, let’s take a deep dive, position by position.

We’ve covered the offense and most of the defense, so today, let’s examine the cornerbacks in the secondary.

There will be a lot of turnover on the outside, with players like Jabbar Muhammad, Dontae Manning, and Nikko Reed all graduating. This will allow a handful of young players and capable veterans to step in and pick up where the previous group left off.

Let’s look at the whole picture, breaking down who arrived this year, who left, and who remains at the CB group going into spring football.

Sep 28, 2024; Pasadena, California, Oregon Ducks defensive linemen Derrick Harmon (55), Oregon Ducks A’Mauri Washington (52) and defensive back Jabbar Muhammad (7) in the third quarter against…

  • NFL free agency: Fantasy football fallout and analysis of deals (and trades)

NFL free agency: Fantasy football fallout and analysis of deals (and trades)

Keep it locked here as fantasy football analyst Matt Harmon breaks down every fantasy-relevant major deal in free agency. We’re also tracking the latest news and rumors across the NFL.

Aaron Jones Sr. and the Vikings’ run game got off to a hot start in 2024 but as one might expect, the veteran faded as the year went on. He even began to give up snaps to Cam Akers in critical moments in the Vikings’ final games. But it still makes sense for team and player to find their way back to each other.

Jones still has some juice and fits well in Minnesota’s zone-heavy run game. He more than sets a baseline for them when he’s on the field. At this stage of his career and on this contract, he also doesn’t preclude them from adding a back in the NFL Draft. I like this move for both parties.

Fantasy fallout: Jones may make sense for me in some build where I punt on running back early — which I’m not looking to make a core strategy in 2025 as it is. He could have some big game early on for a strong offense, especially if Minnesota invests more into the interior offensive line. He also brings the pass-catching chops I need from a fantasy running back. Still, I’d be shocked if the Vikings don’t add to their backfield in the draft and if that player didn’t push Jones into at least a committee down the stretch.

I completely understand the logic in adding Adams to this wide receiver room.

He brings them much more man coverage-beating ability than Cooper Kupp does at this stage of their respective careers. He’s also a candidate to hold down the X-receiver position, which allows them to move Puka Nacua around the formation. That was critical for whoever the Rams would add at wideout this offseason.

Fantasy fallout: Matthew Stafford can feed two wide receivers at a high…

  • DK Metcalf trade grades: Steelers boost offense with bold acquisition of Seahawks’ two-time Pro Bowl wideout

DK Metcalf trade grades: Steelers boost offense with bold acquisition of Seahawks’ two-time Pro Bowl wideout

So much for another bland offseason for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Known for being bargain spenders during free agency, the Steelers made a complete about face on Sunday night when they reportedly traded a 2025 second-round pick to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for two-time Pro Bowl receiver DK Metcalf.

On top of that, the Steelers are reportedly signing Metcalf to a five-year, $150 million deal, making him one of the NFL’s highest-paid receivers. Metcalf, days after requesting a trade, has landed on a new team with a new contract in tow with the official start of free agency still three days away.

Pittsburgh has finally acquired its coveted accomplished veteran wide receiver who they will look to pair with fellow wideout George Pickens. The Steelers, after swinging and missing on their attempts to land a big-name receiver last year, made sure that history wouldn’t repeat itself this offseason.

Still just 27 years old, Metcalf is one of the NFL’s top playmakers. During his six years in Seattle, Metcalf caught 48 touchdowns, which is tied for the fifth most in the league over that span. He had three 1,000-yard receiving seasons in Seattle and averaged a solid 14.4 yards per reception.

Here’s our instant trade grades for both teams.

  • Bowling Green hires Eddie George: Ohio State legend takes next step after four years leading Tennessee State

Bowling Green hires Eddie George: Ohio State legend takes next step after four years leading Tennessee State

    USATSI

Bowling Green has hired Tennessee State coach Eddie George to fill its head coaching vacancy, the university announced Sunday. This will be George’s first coaching opportunity at the FBS level after four years leading Tennessee State.

“I am truly excited to be the head coach at Bowling Green State University,” George said in a statement. “Bowling Green is a wonderful community that has embraced the school and the athletics department. We are eager to immerse ourselves in the community and help build this program to the greatness it deserves. I am overwhelmed with excitement and joy for the possibilities this opportunity holds. I’m also thrilled to be back in the great state of Ohio, where I played my college football. I look forward to meeting the team, the coaches, everyone in the athletics department and everyone in the BGSU and Bowling Green community.”

George is set to replace former Bowling Green coach Scot Loeffler, who recently left to become the quarterbacks coach with the Philadelphia Eagles. Loeffler posted a 27-41 overall record in six seasons at Bowling Green and led the program to three straight bowl appearances from 2022-24.

George just finished his fourth season at Tennessee State, leading the Tigers to a career-best 9-4 record capped by a Big South-Ohio Valley Conference co-championship and an appearance in the FCS playoffs. Tennessee State has upped its win total each year since 2022 under George.

George had a losing record in his first two years with the program, but Tennessee State improved to 6-5 in 2023. Fifteen of George’s 24 career wins as a…

  • Report: 49ers, Joey Bosa having “good conversations”

Report: 49ers, Joey Bosa having “good conversations”

Signs continue to point toward the Bosa brothers teaming up on the 49ers’ defense.

The Niners were pegged as a likely landing spot for edge rusher Joey Bosa when the Chargers released him last week and Tim Kawakami of the San Francisco Standard reports that he has been having “good conversations” with the team.

If a deal gets done, Bosa will play on the same team as his younger brother Nick for the first time in the NFL. The brothers did play together in high school.

The 49ers have also been tabbed as a potential suitor for defensive tackle Jonathan Allen, who was released by the Commanders last week after they failed to find a trading partner. With teams about to start throwing money around in free agency, both veterans will likely be looking to land new jobs sooner rather than later.

  • Which of Oklahoma State football’s returning players have the most to gain in 2025 spring?

Which of Oklahoma State football’s returning players have the most to gain in 2025 spring?

STILLWATER — With the start of spring practice over two weeks away, the peak of intrigue around Oklahoma State football remains on all that is new.

More than 30 new players on the roster for spring, with almost as many set to arrive in June.

New coordinators and assistants on both sides of the ball after head coach Mike Gundy rebuilt his entire staff of offensive and defensive coaches.

After a 3-9 season, the worst in Gundy’s 20-year tenure, the vibes that come from what is new provide a sense of distance from the disappointment of last fall.

But this edition of the Cowboys won’t survive on new players alone.

Many returning faces will be counted on in major roles, so let’s take a look at a few of them who have a lot on the line in spring.

Here are five returning OSU players with the most to gain during spring practice:

NFL combine results: How Ollie Gordon, Oklahoma State football draft prospects fared

Oklahoma State Cowboys quarterback Zane Flores (6) warms up before a college football game between the Oklahoma State Cowboys (OSU) and the West Virginia Mountaineers at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater, Okla., Saturday, Oct. 5, 2024.

Out of the four quarterbacks on the roster, Flores is the only one who hasn’t played in a college game. Yet his 6-foot-4, 215-pound frame and strong right arm still provide loads of excitement.

He’s generated plenty of buzz from his performances in practice over his two seasons at OSU and the next two months provide the first real opportunity to elevate himself into competition for the starting job.

Redshirt junior Garret Rangel has the experience edge and TCU transfer Hauss Hejny has the familiarity with new offensive coordinator Doug Meacham. But neither of those closes the door on Flores’ potential.

Though Hejny is known for his quickness as a runner, Flores has proven his speed…

  • Xavier Worthy arrested in Texas: DA chooses not to charge Chiefs star after booking for assault

Xavier Worthy arrested in Texas: DA chooses not to charge Chiefs star after booking for assault

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy was arrested in Georgetown, Texas, on Friday. While he originally faced a third-degree felony charge of assault against a family or member of a household that includes impeding breathing or circulation, the Williamson County district attorney has declined to press charges at this time.

Shawn Dick, the Williamson County DA, told the Austin American-Statesman that his office will not accept the case following interviews with multiple witnesses to the alleged incident.

“We will continue to evaluate the case. As is our practice with all declines, should you develop additional information indicative of probable cause in this case, our office will consider that information and may present the case at that time to a Williamson County Grand Jury,” Dick’s office said as part of a statement to the paper.

Earlier Saturday, a Chiefs spokesperson said the team was “aware and gathering information” on Worthy’s arrest, per CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones. The NFL also released a statement stating it was “aware of the matter” and “in contact with the club.”

If the charge against Worthy had been pursued, it could have amounted to a third-degree felony in Texas with a maximum punishment, if convicted, of 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Worthy’s attorneys, Chip Lewis and Sam Basset, released a statement on behalf of the wide receiver on Saturday promising Worthy would cooperate with authorities and calling allegations against him “baseless.”

“The complainant was recently asked to vacate Mr. Worthy’s residence upon discovery of her infidelity,” Worthy’s attorneys said in a statement. “She has refused to do so and made a number of extortive efforts prior to resorting to this baseless allegation against Mr. Worthy.”

Worthy just completed his rookie season with the Chiefs after being selected with the No. 28 overall pick in the 2024…
