Giants agree to terms with receiver Zach Pascal

A day after adding another quarterback, the Giants have added another receiver.

The Giants have announced — sort of — that they have agreed to terms with veteran receiver Zach Pascal.

Undrafted in 2017, the 30-year-old Pascal has played for the Colts, Eagles, and Cardinals. He has 169 catches for 2,057 yards and 16 touchdowns in 112 regular-season appearances, with 47 starts.

Pascal appeared in 17 games last season with Arizona, mainly on special teams. He had 68 total offensive snaps and 278 special-teams snaps. He caught no passes in 2024.

In the latest example of a somewhat unusual trend, the Giants posted on their website a blurb crediting the news to “reports.” Instead of simply confirming it. Or debunking it.

Or adding something like this: “The Giants did not respond to a request for comment from the Giants.”

  • Luther Burden’s loyalty to Missouri solidified the program’s turnaround; now NFL scouts think it may cost him

Luther Burden’s loyalty to Missouri solidified the program’s turnaround; now NFL scouts think it may cost him

Luther Burden’s flashy speed, ball skills and open-field electricity had pro scouts’ attention before he ever signed with Missouri as 247Sports’ No. 2 receiver in the 2022 high school class. Many lauded the East St. Louis (Illinois) product’s decision to stay close to home and play for the Tigers — and with his help, Missouri went from 6-7 his freshman year to a 21-5 record over the next two seasons.

His loyalty to the program and cornerstone status in the program’s turnaround made him a hero among Missouri fans, but it may have also cost him in the NFL Draft process.

In his most recent board, ESPN NFL Draft reporter Matt Miller expressed concern about Burden’s stock. Miller rated Burden No. 13, but said he would likely fall out of the top 15.

“He might be drafted lower due to concerns NFL teams have about his statistical drop-off,” Miller wrote.

CBS Sports NFL Draft experts echo the concern. Despite ranking No. 13 in the CBS Sports NFL Draft Prospect Rankings, none of the six CBS NFL Draft experts project Burden to go higher than No. 21. Multiple project two or three receivers going ahead of Burden in the draft.

By any metric, Burden took a step back in 2024. After exploding for 86 catches for 1,212 yards and nine touchdowns, he fell to only 676 yards and six touchdowns during a frustrating final campaign. Despite entering the year as the prohibitive favorite to win the Biletnikoff Trophy as the best receiver in the country, he failed to finish among the SEC’s top 15 in receiving yards.

Many of the struggles were not his fault. Mizzou’s offense took a massive step back in 2024 thanks to inconsistent offensive line play and injuries to quarterback Brady Cook. The running game dropped to 4.1 yards per carry after the loss…

  • Ranking the greatest quarterbacks of all-time: Here’s where Aaron Rodgers currently ranks on the list

Ranking the greatest quarterbacks of all-time: Here’s where Aaron Rodgers currently ranks on the list

While his plans for the 2025 season are a mystery, Aaron Rodgers’ place in NFL history is not. Regardless of what he does next, Rodgers will go down as one of the greatest quarterbacks of all-time whenever he decides to hang up his cleats for good.

Rodgers, 41, has a pretty stacked trophy case that includes four league NFL MVP trophies. Rodgers is also the owner of a Super Bowl MVP trophy after leading the Packers to their fourth and most recent Super Bowl win at the end of the 2010 season. Rodgers is also a 10-time Pro Bowler, four-time All-Pro and a member of the 2010s All-Decade Team. Not bad for a player who wasn’t recruited by a single major Division 1 program coming out of high school.

Where does Rodgers rank among the best quarterbacks of all-time? To find out, we put together a list of the top-30 quarterbacks in the history of the NFL. Here was the criteria used when making the list.

Individual accolades Records set Team success Enduring legacy

Only two active quarterbacks made the cut, but it’s safe to assume that Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson and Matthew Stafford, will each crack this list sometime in the near future. Eli Manning will probably crack the list one day as well, especially if he ever receives induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

    Honorable mention: George Blanda

Owner of one of the most unique careers in NFL history, Blanda’s career spanned a record 26 seasons and included a stint as a linebacker with the Bears early in his career. A three-time AFL champion with the Oilers, Blanda is the last quarterback to throw seven touchdown passes in a game, doing so during a win over the Titans in 1961. Blanda was also a prolific kicker who became the first player to score over 2,000 career points.

    Honorable mention: Bobby Layne

One of the NFL’s original gun slingers, Layne led the Lions to the franchise’s first two championships in…

  • New Oklahoma Sooners teammates building a connection

New Oklahoma Sooners teammates building a connection

As the Oklahoma Sooners prepare for the 2025 season, we still have a ways to go until fall Saturdays are upon us again. However, it’s in the winter, spring and summer where champions are built, and the Sooners are eager to get back to the championship ranks of college football.

With Oklahoma on a break from spring football this week, three of the team’s biggest pieces on offense were still putting in the work on their own.

Quarterback John Mateer and wide receivers Javonnie Gibson and Deion Burks linked up to get a throwing session in earlier this week, as they look to build a connection that pays big dividends this fall.

Mateer is gearing up for a season where he’ll be asked to carry the OU offense on his shoulders. After following offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Ben Arbuckle to Oklahoma from Washington State (with the aid of a hefty NIL deal), the FBS leader in total touchdowns a season ago looks to be the next great one in a line of excellent Sooner QBs throughout history.

Gibson is a fellow transfer, coming to Oklahoma from FCS Arkansas Pine-Bluff. He boasts good size at the position and has been a standout in spring ball to this point, making some big catches from Mateer. That duo will be seeing a big jump up in the level of competition, but there’s clearly physical talent there.

Burks returns for his second season in Norman. He was supposed to star in 2024, but only played in five games due to injury. Last spring was his breakout moment after transferring to OU from Purdue after the 2023 season. He hopes that the hype can pay off with health and production in 2025.

As OU changes to a new offensive system under Arbuckle, and the offense has been remade quite a bit in the transfer portal this winter, there are plenty of benefits to this trio spending extra time to workout together. Firstly, good chemistry is…

  • Jameis Winston gives Giants flexibility and stability in QB room they sorely need

Jameis Winston gives Giants flexibility and stability in QB room they sorely need

They were right to pursue him. The Giants need a bridge to their quarterback-to-be-drafted later. Aaron Rodgers, on paper, is perfect for the role. He’s a four-time MVP and Super Bowl champion who can still play. That wealth of information is invaluable to whomever the Giants select next month. He could have saved some jobs with his own play in the meantime.

It’s become clear that, right now, the Giants are not what Rodgers wants, though. That’s why, weeks after he could have signed, he hasn’t. That’s why he seems hellbent on finding any other opportunity. That’s why he visited the Steelers on Friday, not the Giants, despite New York having such overwhelming interest.

So, Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll pivoted themselves.

Jameis Winston is officially a Giant, sources confirmed to SNY.

If Rodgers dialed up the 201 area code on Saturday and told Schoen and Daboll he wanted to accept their offer … that deal would be there to take. The Giants did not yank their contract to him after Winston accepted his. Their quarterback room, before this signing, had just Tommy DeVito in it. Now, there’s someone who’s been there and done that. They’ll be in on Rodgers until he signs with someone else.

But, in all likelihood, that call from Rodgers won’t come. New York has seriously improved their defense this offseason thanks to the additions of Paulson Adebo and Jevon Holland. They have their picks to add to their offense. They should be a better team next year than last. But there was nothing Schoen could have done this offseason to make New York a contender. That’s with Rodgers or without.

Rodgers is 41. He just spent two years getting beat up with the cross-town Jets. Does he really want to do that again?

That’s why a signing always seemed logically one-sided. The Giants were right to want him. Rodgers was justified in desiring a team closer to contention. If he changes his mind, as he sometimes does, the Giants will wait. In the meantime, they now have a…

  • Giants signing veteran QB Jameis Winston to two-year deal, per report

Giants signing veteran QB Jameis Winston to two-year deal, per report

The New York Giants have added a quarterback, but it’s not the one folks may have been expecting. The club has agreed to a two-year deal with veteran signal-caller Jameis Winston, according to NFL Media. The deal is worth $8 million. Winston himself even confirmed the signing on social media.

Of course, the immediate question in the aftermath of this signing is whether it has any impact on a possible pursuit of Aaron Rodgers, who is off the heels of visiting with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Friday. As NFL Media notes, the addition of Winston will not preclude the organization from pursuing other quarterbacks either via free agency (like Rodgers) or the NFL Draft (Shedeur Sanders) with the third overall pick.

Given the nature of Winston’s contract (worth just $8 million total), that would appear to position him as a backup/depth piece on the roster. Before this signing, the lone quarterback on New York’s depth chart was Tommy DeVito.

Still, Winston does give the Giants another signal-caller with starting experience. The 31-year-old has started 87 regular season games over his career, including seven starts last year with the Cleveland Browns. Winston, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, is 36-51 in those starts and has a career passer rating of 86.4.

  • Amid fight to keep basketball coach Kevin Willard, Maryland loses athletic director Damon Evans to SMU

Amid fight to keep basketball coach Kevin Willard, Maryland loses athletic director Damon Evans to SMU

    Getty

SMU is hiring Maryland athletic director Damon Evans to serve in the same position, the school announced Friday.

Evans will replace Rick Hart, who helped guide SMU into the ACC last year. Previously serving as Georgia athletic director, Evans has been at Maryland since 2014 and worked as the school’s AD since 2018. He was recently named to the College Football Playoff Selection Committee.

SMU recently hired away Jay Hartzell from Texas to be its new president. Hartzell is believed to have made a run at Texas athletics director Chris Del Conte, who brushed away those rumors in February.

The timing of SMU hiring Evans is particularly interesting for Maryland as speculation continues to swirl around Villanova’s interest in Terrapins basketball coach Kevin Willard. He guided Maryland to a second-place regular season finish in the Big Ten and a No. 4 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

The Terps are scheduled to play 13-seed Grand Canyon on Friday afternoon. Willard previously spent 12 seasons coaching in the Big East at Seton Hall, and sources have indicated he still has a strong affinity for the conference.

Speaking ahead of the first-round game, Willard said Evans “is probably going to SMU,” and he spoke about the challenges of NIL demands.

  • Which NFL figures should be the focal point of a reality show?

Which NFL figures should be the focal point of a reality show?

With the news that Quarterback is coming back this year (due in part to the fact that Receiver fell flat), Michael Holley and I spent time on Friday’s PFT Live looking at the NFL figures we’d most like to see on a reality show.

The picks are in the attached video. Holley led things off with Deion Sanders, who isn’t technically an NFL figure but as a practical matter is. And Deion is entertaining and compelling.

My first pick was a guy who wouldn’t be obvious but who would be a superstar: Bills receiver Keon Coleman.

Coleman is naturally engaging and hilarious. He’s authentic. He’s real. He’s effortlessly funny.

Check out the clip for the other picks. And get ready to learn plenty in July about Joe Burrow, Jared Goff, and Kirk Cousins (again) on the Quarterback series.

One last point, while we have your attention. (If we do.) You can now watch PFT Live on NBC Sports Now. It’s two simple clicks to get to the content. Click here, then click “watch live.”
