Steelers legend tired of Aaron Rodgers waiting game as veteran QB unsure of future

As the Pittsburgh Steelers continue their waiting game with free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers, a former franchise great wishes the four-time MVP would provide an answer soon so the team can “move forward” ahead of Mike McCarthy’s first season as coach.

Rod Woodson, a Pro Football Hall of Famer who played 10 seasons with the Steelers and holds the NFL record for interception returns for touchdowns, said this week he’s growing weary of the Rodgers charade. Rodgers revealed earlier this month during an interview with Pat McAfee he wasn’t sure where he would play this year — if at all.

“Is he gonna play? Listen, I get kinda tired of it,” Woodson said on The Rich Eisen Show. “Listen, if he’s gonna play, say he’s gonna play, he’s gonna come back. And the team shouldn’t wait for Aaron Rodgers. They need to move forward.”

Rodgers signed a one-year, incentives-laced deal with the Steelers last summer and initially planned for the 2025 season to be his last given what had transpired the two previous years with the New York Jets. After getting to the playoffs last fall with the Steelers, Rodgers now says since there’s been “no deadline” put in front of him, he’s still deciding on his decision while staying in shape.

Woodson’s had enough of Rodgers’ indecision, he says. By comparison, the Steelers have been a bit more patient with a quarterback who still plays the position at a high level.

Rodgers helped the Steelers capture their first AFC North division title since 2020 last season and went 10-7 overall as their starter.

“What is it with these ex-Green Bay Packers quarterbacks that they have to be talked about all the time?” Woodson said. “‘Cause Brett Favre was that way for years. Remember how we used to have to talk about Brett Favre, talk about Brett Favre.”

Pittsburgh currently has two quarterbacks under contract for 2026 — Will Howard and Mason Rudolph. Howard was a…

NY Giants news, 3/17: Best free agents available, and a look at the roster

Good morning, New York Giants fans!

    From Big Blue View

    Other Giant observations

2026 NFL free agency grades: Justin Fields, Rasheed Walker | ESPN.com

Giants signing LB Tremaine Edmunds. Terms: Three years, $36 million. Grade: C. I’ll add a caveat to this by saying linebackers are hard to quantify, but Edmunds’ tackle rate against the run was only in the 32nd percentile among off-ball linebackers last season, while his run stop win rate was in the 34th percentile. He did have four interceptions last season, but he also allowed 1.1 yards per coverage snap (higher than average).

Looking at free agency rankings, opinions are split on Edmunds. But considering the top linebacker, Devin Lloyd, is getting $15 million per year and Devin Bush — who is signing with the Bears — is getting only $10 million per year, the $12 million Edmunds is receiving seems a little rich.

New York Giants: C. This one-year deal for CB Greg Newsome II comes in right around PFF’s projected per-year average. Newsome struggled in each of the past two seasons after earning PFF coverage grades between 69.9 and 72.3 from 2021 to 2023. He is just 25 years old, so there is still room for growth, and a one-year pact gives him the opportunity to prove that he deserves a bigger deal in the future.

Calvin Austin was given the chance to be the Steelers’ WR2 but never settled into the role. His 2025 season was a trying one, recording a 55.4 PFF receiving grade and dropping 8.1% of his passes. Austin could be a relatively cheap and fast replacement to Wan’Dale Robinson in the slot, but he’s yet to hit his NFL potential.

  • NFL offseason team grades: Rams beef up for Super Bowl run

NFL offseason team grades: Rams beef up for Super Bowl run

We’re two weeks into March, and the new NFL league year is here for 2026. That means all free agency moves can now be made official, which allows us to take stock of how all 32 teams did after a flurry of moves.

The NFL used to look down on big free agent spending, feeling like it was indicative of a roster that had two many holes to contend. The league’s two Super Bowl LX squads, the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks, showed that’s not the case in the 2025 season. The Seahawks ranked fourth in the 2025 offseason in free-agent spending, and the Patriots spent an NFL-record $364 million to go from top five picks in consecutive years to hoisting the AFC championship trophy.

With the entire NFL emboldened to spend higher sums of money and on a higher volume of players in free agency, let’s grade how every team has done this offseason while operating on a new roster building paradigm.

    Arizona Cardinals: C

Key additions: QB Gardner Minshew, G Isaac Seumalo, RB Tyler Allgeier, DL Roy Lopez, WR Kendrick Bourne, S Andrew WingardKey re-signings: DL L.J. Collier, CB Starling Thomas V, P Blake Gillikin, K Chad RylandKey departures: QB Kyler Murray, S Jalen Thompson, DT Dalvin Tomlinson

The Arizona Cardinals have entered the 2027 NFL Draft tank race. With a new head coach in Mike LaFleur and allowing Kyler Murray to walk on over to the Minnesota Vikings, the Cardinals essentially declared they would be running it back with Jacoby Brissett. In 2025, his overall stats were solid (3,377 passing yards, the second most in the NFL from the time he became a starter in Week 6 to the end of the season), but they were…

  • Las Vegas Raiders’ Maxx Crosby trade rumors are not over

Las Vegas Raiders’ Maxx Crosby trade rumors are not over

The Las Vegas Raiders fan base has been dealing with Maxx Crosby trade rumors since he was put on the injury reserve. The blowback from the decision to sit the star edge rusher led to the attempt to trade him to the Baltimore Ravens. When everyone thought it was over, the Ravens pulled the plug, decided not to push the move through, and went with Trey Hendrickson instead.

Crosby announced he was all in with the Silver and Black in 2026, displaying his loyalty with a post on X. Well, the rumors are still flying, with Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reporting that the Raiders remain open to moving on from their five-time Pro Bowl selection.

“Everybody seems like they’re in a good spot, but since they’ve already looked at trading, they’re open to that possibility, potentially, if the right offer would come,” Fowler said. “We’re looking at timelines here; now is gonna be a little slow, but you get closer to the draft, perhaps trade offers will heat up, or even maybe closer to the season. But right now, he’s a Raider, and that’s expected for at least a little while.”

Of course, teams will test John Spytek and see if he will bend on keeping Crosby on the roster. Spytek has been consistent in his asking price, and with the injury concerns, it will be tough for other franchises to meet that commitment. It always will be a possibility, but unless a team comes up with the two first, Crosby should be expected to suit up for the Raiders in Week 1.

  • NFL free agency: Dallas Goedert to re-sign with Eagles amid A.J. Brown trade watch

NFL free agency: Dallas Goedert to re-sign with Eagles amid A.J. Brown trade watch

    Getty Images

Tight end Dallas Goedert agreed to terms on a one-year contract to return to the Philadelphia Eagles, according to NFL Media. It is a $7 million deal that includes a $4.25 million signing bonus, according to ESPN.

Goedert and the Eagles had been working hard towards an agreement since the start of free agency and twice pushed back the void date on his contract to pave the way for his return. The latest adjustment halted the void until Monday, and by coming to terms before that mark, the Eagles avoided taking on a $20.5 million dead cap hit.

A career year in which Goedert racked up personal-bests in catches (60) and touchdowns (11) could not have come at a more opportune time for the 30-year-old in terms of maximizing his value. He posted those numbers in the final year of his contract and was set to become a free agent for the first time in his career had he and the Eagles not agreed to push back his contract void date.

While his market would have likely included interest from multiple teams, Goedert always appeared inclined to re-sign with the Eagles. This is the franchise that drafted him in the second round in 2018 and the only one he has played for in his fruitful eight-year career.

Goedert won Super Bowl 59 with the Eagles and has accounted for at least 33 catches, 334 yards and two touchdowns in each of his eight years in Philadelphia.

What Goedert deal means for potential A.J. Brown trade

With the Goedert contract done, the Eagles can now focus primarily on A.J. Brown and what they wish to do with the wide receiver. Goedert’s cap hit for 2026 figures to be much smaller than the $20.5 million the Eagles would have faced if he walked in free agency, and that new flexibility opens the door for a potential Brown…
