It certainly seems that Notre Dame’s days with Under Armour will soon be coming to an end. According to a report from Ross Dellinger of Sports Illustrated, Notre Dame’s “exclusive negotiating window with current apparel sponsor Under Armour has expired.”
Under Armour has been Notre Dame’s apparel sponsor since 2014 and the deal is set to expire following next season. With the way things have gone for Under Armour in college athletics recently this is hardly surprising to hear.
In recent years Under Armour has cancelled deals with UCLA, Hawaii, Cincinnati, and Cal while Boston College opted to pair with Adidas and New Balance instead of stay with them.
Under Armour will remain having a seat at the table but at this point it feels like a big of a long shot to think they’ll be outfitting Marcus Freeman and the rest of the Notre Dame athletic department in a few short years.
So the question now turns to if not Under Armour then who?
Adidas was the apparel sponsor with Notre Dame for years before Under Armour dove in and they’re still a major player in the college game. Notre Dame has never had a relationship with Nike but their brand clearly speaks for themselves as does the potential Jordan brand.
Another to keep an eye on will be New Balance who has tried for quite some time to grow its brand in the college game.
Whatever the case, change is almost certainly coming to Notre Dame locker rooms and the bookstore soon.
